Staines - Gateway to the World
"A most interesting place"
Staines is the stated home of Ali-G that wonderful comedian. It was also renowned for its Lino. (That's a floor covering now superceded by vynil).
Staines is on the River Thames between Penton Hook and Bell Wier Locks, it is a thriving metropolis with two shopping centres and four or five car-parks.
At one time Staines was the Mecca for shoe shops, but now there is only one.
"Heathrow Airport"
Heathrow is the busiest airport in the World. Even in 1946 Heathrow was one of the world's busiest airports. But the difference is that back then London Heathrow International Airport's one terminal was in fact an army surplus tent situated a short walk from the aircraft.
Now the Airport handles 64 Million passengers a year. With the coming of a new terminal, (Terminal 5 due for completion in 2008) and new and bigger aircraft, this number is set to double.
"The M25"
Staines lies just 1km from Junction 13 of the M25. Junction 15 takes you onto the M4 and Junction 12 is the M3. This section of the M25 now has 6 lanes in both directions and so many Junctions within a few miles.
