A perfectly pleasant hotel.
by planxty
Before people start sending me e-mails, I know this Hotel is technically not actually in Staines, it is in Egham, because Staines stops at the river. It is, however, just over the bridge, so that is good enough for me.
I have only stayed here once, and a perfectly pleasant experience it was too. The building itself is predominantly 18th century although there has been an inn on the site much longer than that. It is quite small, with only 11 rooms, so booking well in advance might be advisable.
The room was ensuite, nicely appointed and with a very comfy bed. The staff were friendly and after a pleasant evening eating on the riverside terrace (see seperate tip for restaurant), it was very pleasant to wander upstairs and turn in.
Unique Quality: A delightful riverside location, especially beatiful in summer.
Directions: Cross over the bridge from Staines, take the first left and it is on the left.

Nice meal in pleasant surroundings.
by planxty about Swan Hotel, Staines.
I ate here in the summer, and the riverside terrace on the Thames provided a wonderful setting for what was a very pleasant meal.
The menu is a little eclectic with various influences including Asian although the backbone of the place is traditional British food.
I had a perfectly cooked lamb shank, which is a particular favourite of mine and it was very good.
The price quoted is for two courses and coffee, without wine, although there is a good wine selection. Lamb shank.
