Total Rip Off - Please Spare Yourself!!!
Just spent today at the worst spa in England!!!! Took my mother for her 65th Birthday - 1st time ever having treatments and to my disappointment I took her to the worst place imagineable! I have been to several day spas, 5 hotels etc but this spa was the worst ever. I just don't know where to begin there is too much to say that went wrong. The SERVICE!! totally disgraceful. Dirty towels left everywhere, no snacks only 3 horrible pastries. The relaxation room was a nightmare- filthy. You are not allowed upstairs in you gowns and as it was busy there was nowhere to sit so had to stay in the changing room most of the day. Felt like we were in prison all day. God there is much much more but all i can say is it was £250 wasted today. And there are several other professionally run 5 star spas in the country I don't know how they get away with it. Its a shame as such a beautiful building and grounds could be a wonderful spa but not under current management. Weeds in the pots in the garden, staff ***ing about customers and not bothered who heard them! I could go on all night!
Enjoy a break somewhere else, like Henlow Grange for instance. Don't waste your money here please! xxxx

We booked this hotel one year in advance of our wedding and booked the attic room (the equivalent of the honeymoon suite) which was fairly expensive but thought it would be a nice treat as we were getting married at the golf club (Crondon Park) next door. We checked into the room after a wonderful wedding on a very hot day in July. We went to use of luxury jacuzzi and there was no hot, or even warm water. We called reception to report this and were joined by someone who ran the taps for half hour before telling us that there was no hot water (genius or what?). We asked for another room. Ten minutes later and no response we called reception again. Shortly after the night porter came up and offered us a SINGLE room! We said we would use the shower in the room at least. When we went to the room we found it to be a double and so to save traipsing back and forth decided to stay in that instead, which was a bog standard room and nothing like what we had expected. By the time we were moved it had been one and a half hours since arriving at the hotel. In the morning my husband and I went to reception and complained – we asked for a refund as a gesture of goodwill from them spoiling our wedding night. There response was unbelievable. The manager said “I’ve been up and there’s hot water now” repeatedly and could not seem to comprehend that this was no use to us. His name is Ben Hales and I would not wish anyone the displeasure of dealing with this heartless man. After a few minutes of him repeating this, my husband started to get a bit angry (as any normal person would) and was thrown out of the hotel. For our inconvenience the hotel offered us the difference back between the amount we had paid and the standard room we had booked and nothing more. I am so upset and disgusted at this so called luxury hotels standards. To top it all, one of our guests had an overflowing toilet and also called reception who tried to charge him for blocking it and the manager was equally responsive. Brides – if you are getting married at Crondon, please do not stay at this hotel. It is worth taking a cab trip to one of the other hotels – please read other reviews of this hotel which back this up.
Worse than Fawlty Towers
I woud recommend you book elsewhere even if this place seems convenient. It is worth travelling 20 miles further than having to endure a stay at Greenwoods. I would recommend any of the budget hotel chains over this place every time!
I stayed here with my family as part of my brother's wedding (held at the adjoining Crondon Park).
The stay was appalling from beginning to end with my complaint to the hotel totalling several sides of A4!

No AC or even fans in the rooms
Noisy AC unit (for other parts of the building) outside my window
Breakfast in bed failed to arrive as ordered
3 slices of toast, a portion of ceral and a croissant was £18.50!
Shabby Spa with broken showers and steam room
Spa way to overcrowded for the number of staff
A manager who was indifferent to my complaints
The hotel claims: “No matter what the reason for your stay, we are dedicated to offering you the highest possible standards. Therefore if there is anything you need, please contact any member of staff, who will do their utmost to exceed your expectations”
This is a joke, just as it is a joke to call this place 4 star - I would not give it 2 and wild horses could not make me book there again.
We stayed at Greenwoods for a friends Wedding. We arrived lunchtime on the Friday, and left Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed our stay, but mainly because of the occaision, not because of Greenwoods. I think that some of the comments are a little harsh, but do reflect an overall opinon that this Hotel could do with a makeover and some Customer training for the staff.
The event did not get off to the best of starts, when the Ceiling in one of the function rooms we were due to use, collapsed!! Now, I know this is not really their fault, but it didnt bode well. Fortunately, they had a Marquee set up in the grounds for an event planned for the Monday, so we were able to use that instead.
The food was good, but the breakfasts were VERY expensive, as were the drinks.
Our room was upgraded at no extra charge, but when I checked the bill when I got home, they had charged us. I rang them, and they apologised, and promised me a credit, but it is now Mid-August and I still havent had it!!
The Hotel setting is beautiful. the Gardens are lovely, and there is a large East Facing patio out the back, ideal for Summer afternoons.
The pool & Spa were .... ok! Again, it could do with a good spruce up, but we enjoyed the facilities.
To summarise, we had a lovely time, and our friends certainly seemed to enjoy their wedding. But a little more attention to details, cleaning and customer service please Greenwoods
Unprofessional, rip off
Well having read the other reviews I can see I am not the only one who can see this place for what it really is.. an over priced un professional estrablishment, I can't believe the manor in which the manager treats an unhappy guest, he was extremly rude and unable to help when approached, word of mouth does terrible things for a companies reputation. It would have been so easy to be polite and try and help but no, clearly Mr West is rather unsure of his responsibilities as the manager. Dont waste you money potential customers!!!!!!!
