Kittiwake Cottage: Garden CL at Skarfskerry.

Knowing we would need to fill up with water and empty the toilet at this stage of our holiday, we pre-booked this site, a Caravan Club 5 van certificated location.

To be honest, after having passed some interesting scenery, the site was rather bland, being someone's mown lawn and not really with any decent views (although if you stoon in a certain place you could just about make out Orkney.

At only £4 a night, this site was ideal. Only facilities, chemical disposal point, a tap and a bin and recycling.

Highlight was watching the owners ducks and hens, most amusing. I fancied some duck eggs but the owner only had two so gave them to us gratis. They made a very fine breakfast, boiled, the next day.

Very peaceful with friendly owners.

WAterside Guest House: Great B&B

A huge room with private bath. Lovely helpful people. I took a picture of the inside of our room, after staying in such a tiny little place in London for a whole lot more $$$$,
I found and reserved it on the internet and we really enjoyed it even though we were only there 2 nights. Long enough to travel around the town and visit the Orkneys.

Phyllis Yates' Bed&Breakfast: The first time I believed God exists

We started to find accommodation in Thurso. First step: Youth Hostel (advertised throughout the town): price would have been around 12 pounds, but it was full. Next YH: dirty, 25pds, full.... No place in Hotel, for 40... Okay, let's look for B&B's. We have visited 7 very nice ladies who take care for these places --- all full. Somebody told us it was impossible to find any vacancies in town. But the 8th place was Phyillis' B&B: a room for 3 - 15pds/person, and not a YH quality! Phyllis was very-very nice to us, made a wonderful breakfast, the room is the best we've been in our trip! And in the center of town!! I was shocked -- i thought I'd misunderstood and the price was fifty, not fifteen, but for the third time we asked it's been evident that we'll play 10pds less than for the YH....
