Around Thurso
"Thurso"
After we had been to John O'Groats and visited a few other places along the way we decided the best idea was to stop in at Thurso for something to eat and have a walk around. After we had something to eat we walked along a part of the beach at Thurso and managed to see in the distance Thurso castle.I have read that surfing is big in Thurso and it would have been good if time permitted to have stayed in the town for longer and maybe have seen people surfing but as we had a long journey ahead of us back down towards Dunrobin Castle we decided to head. One thing that I mentioned to Jen was that it would be good to travel to the Orkney Islands one day and maybe stop at Thurso again before going by ferry to the islands.
"Dunnet Head"
Before reaching Thurso from John O'Groats we took a small road towards the true north of Britain-Dunnet Head. The views from here were fantastic and we could see the Old Man of Hoy tucked in beside the Orkneys once again there was plenty of birdlife aswell offering any birdwatchers visiting theses areas a quality of abundance. There's another lighthouse perched beside the cliffs and minor fortifications that still exist from World War II,built to defend the nearby Scapa Flow naval base.
"Dunnet Bay"
Dunnet Bay has a fantastic beach, where we decided to have a dance probably because there was hardly anyboby around.
