Travel Tips for Llangollen
The river Dee.
by Pauldelabar
Llangollen is situated upon the river Dee, itself worthy of a photograph from the river bridge. By looking at this picture you can see how close the railway station is to the river.
Even the footbridge over the train tracks to get from one platform tp another has had to 'borrow' space from above the river!
The station at Glyndyfrdwy
by Pauldelabar
Can you pronounce it?
Glin-dif-erd-wee. and not a vowel it it!
This is one of the main intermediate stations on the Llangollen staeam preservation railway. The villiage itself is quite isolated.
You may note that the booking office is of wooden construction and was saved from destruction in the Crewe area and transported to Glyndyfrdwy.
The original station building, although still very much still standing and situated on the other platform, is now a private residence, bought by the owners when the railway closed down in the 1960's.
The scenery here in this area is 'to die for'!
Stroll through the streets of Llangollen
by adelaidean
The main street is a maze of little shops ranging from little antiques to icecream..Spend a few hours looking through these. At the top of the main street was a great little candle shop..I cant remember the name of it..but it had the most beautiful candles in it..and would be great if you needed a very different gift..

"Llangollen"
Most people associate Llangollen with the International Music Eisteddfod held every July that attracts thousands of visitors from around the world. But if you are like me and grew up in North Wales then Llangollen means a place to drive out to on a Sunday, take in the Horseshoe Pass, grab a bag of chips and a pint of beer and then head back home.
Yes, it is a favourite day trip destination for people of North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire. The town is full of gift shops, cafes, hotels and pubs and knows how to cater for the serious holidaymaker as well as the day trippers.
Come to Llangollen and you won't be disappointed.
"Eisteddfod Trail"
As has become the fashion these days Llangollen has a "trail" you can follow through the town. Starting at the bridge follow the music notes until you reach the pavillion where they host the Eisteddfod.
Beautiful town of Llangollen.
by A2002
Llangollen is a small beautiful town. It may be full of tourists in the summer. Many come to Llangollen for walks along the canals or boat rides along the canals.
My last trip to Llangollen is with my parents in summer 2003. This picture is taken near the starting point of the horse drawn canal boat.
