"Stream in the Sky"
by sandysmith
A longer 2 hour canal trip from the canal wharf on the aptly named narrow boat THOMAS TELFORD takes you across Telford's magnificent PONTCYSYLLTE AQUEDUCT, providing the thrill of travelling in a boat 126 feet above the River Dee - the "Stream in the Sky" experience.
Its also possible to walk across this aquaduct on its narrow towpath and there are car parks and pubs at either end. We parked by the village of TREVOR. Watching the canal boats go across this narrow aqueduct so high above the ground was a really strange experience - the water trough is only about 7 feet wide and 5.3 feet deep.
Sheep pastures and hills of northeastern Wales.

Llangollen, Wales, is completely surrounded by sheep pastures and dense conifer forests blanketing steep hillsides, and by brooks and creeks descending from the high country. The photos shown are of pastures and steep forested hills just north of the prototypical Welsh village of Llangollen. The people of this region have raised sheep for many centuries, and the sheep and wool industry is vitally important to this area.
Much more to come. Just getting started.
Carolau Yn Yr Abaty - Carols at the Abbey
by Mariajoy
We attended the carol service at the Abbey at 7pm and it was already very dark and wet so sensible footwear and warm clothing was required!- this is an abbey in ruins so there are no doors and windows - be prepared!
Carols and readings were in Welsh as well as English and some German and the music was provided by the Llangollen Silver Band. The ticket price also included mulled wine and mincepies and a great time was had by all!

The start of Welsh Wales.........
by leics
.....well, it always feels like that to me. The A5 (the main road to Wales from the Midlands) runs like a spine through my life, and every time I'd travelled it Llangollen is where I begin to feel I'm back in Wales. It's the mountains, I think; they seem to properly begin there.
It's a nice enough place to stop for a break, and there are plenty of interesting things nearby to visit (and some excellent walks too). But a little too full of coach parties for my taste, a little too touristy.
Nice riverside, boat trips etc.
Llangollen, Wales

I had never been to Wales, and was anxious to go there. I also wanted to see the famous aqueduct. So our daughter took a day off work and we drove up there.
All the signs are both in Welsh and English of course.
The bridge in Llangollen has those cutouts (angles that extend out from the bridge) for people to stand in out of the way so they don't get trampled while carriages, stagecoaches or the hunt goes over the bridge.
