"Under the Thatch": Stay in a Romany caravan

This charming vardo (Romany caravan) with accompanying cabin, is available to rent all year round from the amazing Under the Thatch company They restores old cottages and unusual buildings in an imaginative and clever way - clever, because they make these places comfortable to live in too.

You can stay all year round in the vardo - we were there in some of the worst weather imaginable. Despite worrying about being swept down the river Ceri and out to sea, we were quite cosy while the wind howled and the rain buffeted us.

There is a traditional pot-belly stove in the caravan (baking hot), an electric heaters, fairy lights and hot-water bottles, so you will be quite snug,

The vardo come with what the company describes as a 'Rustic Cabin' complete with fridge, a proper loo, electric shower, microwave/oven,kettle, toaster, sink, CD player/radio. Forget any ideas about camp fires and making your own entertainment.
The cabin is really tiny but cleverly designed so that everything fits like a child's dream of a house. It has a little wooden veranda that was awash during our visit but would be lovely for sitting out in the summer under a starry sky.

Unique Quality: The vardo is exquisitely restored and set in an acre of meadow by a stream. The village of Rhydlewis is small and friendly and has a little village store/post office complete with cat. You are a very short drive or bike ride from the coast and someem wonderful sweeping sandy beaches

Otters are supposed to be found swimming in the stream and there was much debate in the caravan visitor book over whether anyone saw or heard an otter or not.
