Stepping back to the 60's

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 4, 2011

My partner & I stayed at the Clarence House Hotel for two nights recently, & it was like stepping back in time to the 1960's. To say the the room was dated is an understatement, with carpet that I had previously seen in my grandmothers house. The bathroom and in particular the shower cubicle was very small. The bed being two singles was huge, but would have looked much better if fitted with a valance, as you could see the ripped divan. The main door into the room fitted the frame poorly therefore letting in noise & light. It was also had to be locked from the outside,so I could never be completely certain it was actually locked! The 42" flat screen television was by far the most modern item in the room, but looked strangely out of place. The breakfast I could best describe as mediocre, although the staff did their best to be helpful. Fortunately due to a clerical error I ended up paying half the price asked for the room,£94 for two nights, instead of the £188 demanded originally. The sea view however was fantastic. This hotel with some investment and a review of current room rates could be an excellent place. Lets hope this happens before another forty years pass.

Unique Quality: Excellent sea views & close proximity to the town centre.
