Newport
"A visit to Newport"
I recently had cause to visit Newport. I parked in the new Sainsburys car park to save paying. (Cwmbran has free parking) As I walked into town, everyone walked with their heads bowed, not depressed, just looking out for the dog fouling on the pavements.
Finally reached the centre, though you would never have known, as it resembled a third world country. Shops boarded up and vacant, more traders set to move out.
I heard a few snatches of English along the journey, these turned out to be visitors.
The town centre paving has an innovative non slip surface, provided by copious chewing gum.
Buskers lined the streets and played sombre music. A veil of depression descended upon me, which lifted as I walked back to my car.
