Dolgamedd Camping and Caravan Park: Great campsite!

UPDATE : AUGUST 2012

Another great visit to Dolgamedd and our third year enjoying our North Wales Camping Meet here. The campsite has changed little during these three years and maintains its high standard of facilities. Prices have risen very slightly, with my single occupied tent costing £9.25 per night.*

A family-run park set in 11 acres which are on reasonably level ground within a sheltered area beside the River Wnion that offers great facilities. There is also a section of static holiday homes available which have piped gas.

Campfires are allowed at designated points beside the river (where we regularly pitch our tents).

The campsite has short walks along the riverside and some woodland paths.

Facilities include a launderette, campers' kitchen (including freezer for freezer packs), separate male and female ablutions (with free hot showers), disabled/parent-child ablution room, wash-up sinks, 10 amp electric hook-ups, chemical toilet disposal.

Children (6 to 16yrs) - £4.50-£5.00
Children (5 yrs and under) - £2.50
Babies under 1 - free
Dogs - £2.00
2 people in a caravan - £17.00-18.00
Use of 10amp Hook-up - £4.00 daily
Duke of Edinburgh Groups - £5.00
Day visiting Cars - £2.00

Unique Quality: The camping area along the River Wnion offers great opportunities for campfires and wildlife spotting - we saw a number of different birds whilst we were there.

The camp kitchen also offers free WiFi.

There are many grea attractions nearby, including steam railways, beaches, fishing, castles and water sports.

Dolgamedd Caravan and Camping Park: A Great site for our VT Camping Weekend

Vicki had found this site for our 2010 VT Camping weekend, and it turned out to be a great find! So good that we've returned for our 2011 and 2012 meets.

A couple of miles outside Dolgellau, so handy as a base for sight-seeing, walking, cycling etc. Also handy for Bala and Barmouth.

Situated on 84 acre sheep farm, Dolgamedd is a 6 acre family run site, level and sheltered and set in beautiful scenery.

The camp site is well set out, and very well organised.
Pitches: 65+25 Statics
Open: Easter To October

Facillities include Clean showers (3 in the ladies) and toilets,with shaver points and hair dryer (20pence coins) One family/disabled shower/toilet room.
Camper's kitchen (with fridge/freezer (for freezer blocks) /microwave ), Outside sinks/drinking water, electric hook-ups and barbeques, Launderette/dryers. Elsan disposal

The family who own the site are all Welsh speakers.

No groups of young people, without prior arrangement.

No new arrivals after 22.00hrs (Unless prearranged).

Camp fires allowed on riverbank plots - logs for sale at reception. Picnic tables can be hired for the season
No Chinese Lanterns or BB guns Allowed.

We were pitched at the side of the River Wnion, where the waters appeared to be getting deeper and faster flowing as the rain fell. We were quite surprised to see a couple of canoes rush past our tents. Swimming and salmon fishing ( by arrangement) can be enjoyed here too-well we managed a paddle on the Sunday morning - late August 2010, and it was ice cold!!!!

Plenty of wildlife-with a robin, dippers, buzzards and bats flying overhead- (not at the same time!)
Apparently deer can often be spotted in the nearby woods.

My only criticism would be that as the nearest shop is 5km away in Dolgellau - a small shop on the site - where we could buy milk, eggs or essentials would have been handy. We had brought plenty of food and drink with us, and had cars if we had needed to go shopping.

Away from reception/kitchen area, mobile phone signals are poor. This appears to be a problem in this area - we couldn't get a signal in Bala either.

Unique Quality: UPDATE

We enjoyed this site so much that Vicki booked it again for our 2011 meet. I'm afraid that we saw even more rain this time though!
This time our 5 tents had the end pitch next to the bridge, which was an ideal plot as we weren't encroaching on our neighbours - some noise from traffic, but it's not a busy road.

2012..... and We're back again 17th - 19th August - If you want to avoid camping in the rain avoid the weekend that We've booked, because once again we were treated to much precipitation!
