Travel Tips for Harlech

What a Castle...

by Myfanwe

Harlech is a charming little Town on the North West Coast of Wales in the Heart of the Snowdonia National Park.

The Towns' main tourist attraction has to be the Castle which is a World Heritage Site. It has been built in a fabulous position set up high on a hilltop and dominates the skyline for miles around.

The views from the Castle are absolutely amazing, they almost blew me away (quite literally!!).

Harlech has a lovely little high street consisting of quaint coffee shops, banks, pubs and gift shops.

Sunny Wales Weekend

by DEBBBEDB

Well, my son didn't start school until Thursday (9/5) and the camps ended on 30 August. So, he and I went to Wales from Sat (8/31) to Tues (9/3). My husband had to work. We stayed in Harlech on the coast. The weather was fantastic - I don't think we saw a single cloud all weekend. Here is the trip report...

Sat. - We left Cheltenham around 1030 after shopping and cleaning for a bit in the morning.

We stopped at Powis Castle around 1300. It certainly made a nice break to the drive.

We arrived in Harlech around 1700 or so. The drive for the B&B we were staying in was very steep. I was glad that I had my husband's automatic instead of my manual. I still had to put the automatic into low gear to make it up the hill. From our room, we had a great view of the coast - fabulous beach and incredible sunsets. That evening we walked down to the beach, along the coast and back into town for dinner. Since it was Sat night (and the last of the holiday weekends) we had some trouble finding a place with open tables. We ended up at a diner sort of place, where the food was OK, but the view was great, the castle and beach.

After an amazing breakfast, we drove to Portmeirion

We stopped at the beach on the way back to the B&B. Where we saw the same kids we had seen at the playground at Portmeirion. So, my son played with them for a while. We drove back to the B&B and I managed to successfully back the car into it's space and then we walked to dinner. It was a beautiful evening and we ate outside at one of the places our B&B owner recommended. There we talked to a family that has a child just two days older than my son. Are the people friendlier in Wales? Or maybe people on holiday are friendlier, than they are at home? We seemed to talk to more people on this trip than any other...
