Ty'n Rhos Country House: Ty'n Rhos

by Suet

We had a very large double suite with glass doors out into the garden. The price of the room included breakfast.
Room 2, £99.00 per night, dogs accepted. 5 course dinner for two, £77.00, wine extra.

The whole hotel is decorated like a very luxurious house. It makes you feel that you are staying in someones home, beautiful furniture, log fires, comfy lounges and excellent food.

Hilary and Steve really know their business. They have very high standards of service and yet it is all presented in such a friendly way. It really makes you want to go back again which we probably will.

The house looked wonderful when we visited on 30 december 2011, it was tastefully and elegantly decorated for Christmas with log fires and candlelight.

Pure luxury. Hilary and Steve, your hosts, will provide you with a really comfortable room, monogrammed bathrobes, luxury bath products, wine, flowers and fruit in the rooms, attention to every detail.

This Country House Hotel is situated in a very lovely part of North Wales, stunning scenery, Snowdonia National Park practically next door. Set in 50 acres of garden, it is really a lovely place for a romantic weekend or visit.

Please do look at the website, it describes the hotel much better than I can.

Glasfryn Cottages: Self cateruing in style

by davesut

This was a great retreat about 5 miles from Pwhelli. There are a few places to stay and we stayed in the Coach House. The grounds of this place are great to explore and were fantastic in the spring time with life beginning to return t the countryside.

The self catering accommodation has all the facilities you need although we could not work out how to get the best out of the central heating boiler. Downside was the lack of water pressure in the evening which meant hot baths were a problem.

Really good rooms and ample space for 10 people at the coach house.

Oriel Gallery: Oh wow

by davesut

A stay with a large group at the Oriel Gallery in Lanbedrog. A fabulous place to stay with great rooms and communal kitchen, diner and sitting room. A fantastic location, you get the grounds to yourself after 5pm when the gallery closes which would be fantastic in the summer although not so much fun in the dark in winter.

Cost is £1250 per week but if you get three families staying here, value would be worth it. We stayed for my 40th birthday treat. You didn't believe I was 40 did you?

Pen-y-Bont Bach: Great Value

by nickandchris

Before we bought the motorhome, we camped on the Lleyn a number of times. We found a great little site in Llangwnnadl which was always uncrowded and family orientated. It had a funny little sloping garden shed for the toilet, halfway down the field and another toilet and shower at the top of the field. It was certainly rustic but we loved it. We returned year after year.
This now seems to have become both a Caravan Club and Camping Club CL. or possibly it always was and we didn't realise!!

2006 price:£6.

Although very basic if you are in a tent, it was just the sort of site we loved. No fuss, no organisation, no signs, just friendly owners and room to spread out. We always met like minded families when we were camping here.
There were excellent mushroom fields around, that I do remember....
I seem to remember there was a fridge the last time we went and a freezer for freezer blocks.

Sorry, no photos until scanned.

Ty Mawr Farm: Right Above The Beach

by nickandchris

There is a Caravan Club CL at this farm, which is on a private road to the beautiful white sand cove of Porth Iago. When the farmer told us they were full (ie: 5 vans) he said we could pay the same and camp above the beach in the car park. Well, we leapt at this and spent a few days happily staring out to sea. Actually, it rained a lot of the time we were camped here but we have spent time on the beach here on other holidays.
There are no facilities on the CL other than water and chemical toilet emptying point.

Porth Iago is really beautiful. At high tide it's a lovely sheltered cove but as the tide recedes it leaves a larger expanse of sand where rollers attract surfers. There are some rocky, grass-topped spits of land to one side of the cove which give excellent views of the beach and coast.
Access to Porth Iago is via a toll road across the farmer's land.

Open Easter to October.

Well, obviously the proximity to beautiful Porth Iago.
Cost for CL 2006: £3 per night.

The Foryd: Free Camping in the Motorhome

by nickandchris

We decided on an October half term holiday to North Wales. We free camped on the Foryd which is a small coastal road running from Caernarfon along the coast and has lovely views across the Menai Straits to Anglesey and Foryd Bay to Abermenai.
It was a good place for digging bait and also for boating although the currents are pretty lethal in this channel.
Further along the road is a picnic area and public toilets.

Proximity to Caernarfon, which we went to in the boat and the views.
Actually, you could see Caernarfon airport from where we were camped and one evening we watched helicopters manouvreing.

Llecyn: Quiet Location But Popular....

by nickandchris

Just down the road from the CL we were staying on was a proper campsite. It turned out the field we were staying in belonged to the owners.
This is a level, grassy 4 acre site, .25m from Porth Colmon with another part across the road. There are full facilities and a shop. Certainly it seemed very popular, probably because of it's location and the fact it was only about £5 a night. I must say, it was a little crowded for our liking and we were glad we were on the CL which we had to ourselves until the last day. We were even allowed to use the facilities if we wanted and we were only paying £3.

Llecyn: Basic CL. near beach

by nickandchris

A large field, all to ourselves, until the last morning.
A pleasant Caravan Club CL. on a gentle slope. Bordered by trees with a rural outlook and only about .75 of a mile from the coast.
There is a ricketty, spider infested shed that houses a toilet and the usual water and chemical disposal point.
We were told we could use the facilities at the licensed site of the owners, just down the road, but didn't bother.
It was a great field for children to play cricket, football etc . We really enjoyed our time here, it was very quiet and peaceful and all for the princely sum of £3 a night!!!

Situated close to Llangwnadl and near the wonderful beach of Traeth Penllech.
Open all year.

Pen-Y-Pass Youth Hostel: Great hostel for hill walkers

by Adelle123

Great facilities, and even a bar. You cant get a better location for access to the hills with the snowdon horshoe on one side and the glyders on the other. Avoid parking problems by taking the bus.
