Watch these suckers..
by Custodyspice
Whenever I think of Wales, a sheep is the first thing I think off. Always come in handy for keeping you warm on chilly nights in the tent, or equally nice with some mint sauce over a barbeque.......ONLY KIDDING!!! I'll have you know I donate to 3 different animal charities a month....
Snowdon Railway
by sandysmith
Have a rest from hiking and enjoy the train up Snowdon....you could always walk down ;-))
In fact this is the best option cos if you go up and down on the train you only have half an hour at the top, which is only just long enough to get a drink and some souvenirs in the cafe at the top. Nowhere near long enough to enjoy the splendid panorama at the top....like I usually get :-)))
The railway was built at the end of the 19th century and first opened to passengers 6th April 1896. The track clmbs up 3140 ft on the north-western slopes of snowdon in about 50 minutes.
This is the main attraction of Lanberis and the gift shop at the bottom station has lots of souvenirs and a free exhibition on the Railway.
Beat the Queues...
by sandysmith
If its a sunny weekend or mid summer...get there early ....queues are very likely and you may be disappointed or have to wait a long time in the cafe there.
The ticket office will display when the next available train is.
Hiking the Llanberis Path
by sandysmith
Of course the energetic and fit can hike the path up and down if they wish.....can be an ant trail in the good weather. Make sure you are properly equipped though with good footwear and be prepared for rapid change of weather in these mountains. The path starts at a gate and cattle grid at the end of the first side road above the Snowdon Railway Station. The trail is clearly marked...
Hiking the llanberis Path
by sandysmith
At first the path is steep and on the right you will see a 14 arch viaduct which carries the railway past the nearby 60ft Ceunant Mawr waterfall. Also as you hike up the beginning of the Llanberis path remember to take a look back for the view over Lanberis and its Lake - Lake Padarn.
The path is in good condition here and climbs gently now but soon becomes stony and uneven.
