Out for a quick blast on the piste
by sourbugger
The 'Happy valley' at the foot of the Great Orme mountain sprouted a number of facilities in the 1980's to give the adrenneline junkies a bit of a fix.
There is a 300-meter artificial ski & snowboard slope, where the British championships are held every year. The 'Swiss chalet' makes the setting at least semi-authentic.
The 750-meter toboggan track look like a lot of fun. Common in europe, but unusual in the UK the metalled tube allows you to 'pilot' your own cart down the run. Those aged between 4 and 7 may travel with an adult and those aged 8 or over get their own cart. At less than a fiver for 2 runs, this looks like a bargain. It unfortunately was closed the last time I was there, but I will give you a full in-depth rundown of by bumps, scratches and broken bones when I get to have a go.
Cable Car

Another way up the Great Orme is the Cable Car. This one requires you are made of slightly sterner stuff than the test offered by the tramway. It's the longest cable car system in Britain, and at its highest point reaches over a hundred feet above the ground. The real thrill is the winds that batter the little cars as they crawl up the hillside. They can really swing, even in a mild wind.
It's totally safe, though. Only 1 death in a hundred years, and that was a suicide. The cable car seems to get shut down at the slightest hint of a breeze, so the battering you get will be within safe limits. Not that you'll care to know this if you suffer vertigo and you see the ground from the side* window.
The Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel at Llandudno stands majestic at the start of the pier, with the backdrop of the Great Orme. It also overlooks the nice sandy beach. It is one of the most distinctive buildings in town.

"Llandudno promenade"
This victorian seaside town with its two bays is a very popular resort on the North Wales coast.
"The Great Orme"
Llandudno's mountain - not very big but has a scenic coastal path.
There is a tramway and a cable-car up to the Great Orme but its not a difficult walk up and the views are wonderful and easier to appreciate this way.
