Travel Tips for Llandudno
Victorian Facades, Less Victorian People
by RhineRoll
We spent almost half a day in Llandudno. Especially for wheelchair users, it is a very nice place to visit as they can stroll along the seaside promenade and the pier. The house facades tell tales of glorious former times, when Llandudno must have been really fashionable and aristocratic. Many of today's visitors are considerably less fashionable and aristocratic, and the demand of tacky tastes is met with tacky supplies.
There was a curious discrepancy between the beautiful buildings and many ugly people dressed in the fashion of Glasgow Neds.
Among the visitors were also many elderly people -- they at least were dressed normally and didn't look like morons.
The West Shore is much less tacky and touristy. The Great Orme is nice for hiking, but if you can't do that due to restricted mobility, it's not a must IMO -- especially when there are low clouds restricting your view to the Snowdonia mountains.
ICe Cream parlour
by davesut about Fortes and Carwaliders
Both places worth a visit, Fortes has been a British institution for many years and recently refurbished restaurant adds to the good experience. Some of the best ice cream that I have ever tasted however is Cadwaliders which has a few outlets in North Wales but as you can see here closed from 6pm. Vanilla is always best for an ice cream connoisseur
Skiing at the sea
by davesut
There is a dry ski slope at happy valley along with a bar/restaurant and a bobsleigh ride. I remember this being built in the 1980s and how it was a controversial move as it took away some of the natural landscape of the area although it is hidden from view as it is in a valley but as time has gone on it looks more tatty every time I see it. I think the place would look better without it but who am I to stand in the way of progress? bob sleigh ride is great fun though.
Take a walk along the whole...
by RobMorgan
Take a walk along the whole length of the promenade in Llandudno until you come to the paddling pool, about one & half miles from the pier, here you'll find a small cafe which gives you a welcome rest (& has a toilet !!!).
Has lovely coffee & also snacks. Liz is enjoying a coffee & chocolate flapjack yum! yum!
