The tree planting began in the 1790's and the first Lord Aberconway's father-in-law bought the estate in 1875 - he started the Dell garden and planted the renowned laburnum arch. The house - Bodnant Hall - is not open to visitors but really the gardens will keep you occupied enough with their beauty.

Magnolias

The second Lord Aberconway also started the collection of rhododendrons and magnolias, suscribed to plant-collecting expeditions, grew the seed and passed the gardening enthusiasm to his son, the third Lord Aberconway.
