Corris Youth Hostel: "A lovely place to stay on budget"

by nani80

The hostel is located in Corris, in an old school building, and it's perfectly charming and tranquil place to spend a day or two. We were in a rush and only stayed for a day (in a private room), but really liked the atmosphere and I wouldn't mind staying there again.
The owner was really helpful, giving us directions and weather forecast, and he really has a lot to tell about the area.

Trefalen Farm Campsite: Camping in Bosherston

by nani80

If visiting Pembrokeshire, spend a night in this nice and quiet campsite near Bosherston (Broadhaven beach). The owners are really nice and friendly people living in the farm house nearby, who will give you a tip or two where to pitch your tent to get the best view or to find a shelter from the wind. The campsite is perfectly located to explore the area - take a walk to Bosherston Lily Ponds or to St Govan's Head and the cliffs beyond.
It's a unique and charming place, and this tranquility is only spoilt a bit by noise from the Castlemartin firing range (although, not that often as you might expect). Keep in mind the camp is very basic - there are no showers at the campsite (I've read you might find one at the beach below the camp, but have never tried) - but what you get here is a a very rare peacefull experience.

Lovely location - allows you to enjoy the nicest walks during the day, and the brightest sky during the night. A real gem!

Hillend Caravan Camp: Rhossili Beach - Great location for a camp

by nani80

Situated near Rhossili beach, the campsite has a perfect location. It's the busiest camp I've seen in Wales, but it's well mantained, with friendly and helpful staff.
It's usually very windy (and rainy), so make sure your tent can stand such weather conditions.

Amazing location.

Greenhill Country House: Don't leave anything behind!

by Marysdaughter

Adequate, clean accommodation and quite good value for money. Friendly female staff on reception who also served us breakfast on one occasion - so probably short staffed.

The restaurant wasn't available for evening dinner, so we drove to Tenby, where there is a good choice of restaurants - a taxi would have cost around £20 one way!!!

We returned home on the Sunday evening and I didn't unpack my bag properly for a couple of days, whereupon I realised I had left my jewellery behind in a drawer in the hotel bedroom!!!!

I wasn't too concerned at that point as the hotel hadn't been busy, so it was likely that our room was still vacant. I rang the hotel and spoke to a man on reception, who grudgingly went to check the drawers in the bedroom. He said the room hadn't been let, but my jewellery wasn't there. My partner rang up later and spoke to the same person, who said he would check again, but he was quite short with my partner. I decided to ring the Police as the jewellery included a white gold necklace I had been given by my partner for my 50th birthday, so it meant a lot to me.

The hotel managerial staff were adamant that all members of staff were trustworthy, but they seemed to be more concerned with themselves than trying to find out what had happened to my jewellery! It was intimated that I had lost it or hadn't left it behind at all. All in all, they were most unhelpful (and their story kept changing).

To cut a long story short - the jewellery turned up over a month later and was returned to me. Can you guess what was missing?

We all leave things behind at some time or other. Yes it would have been wonderful if my necklace had been returned, but at the very least I would have expected to be treated with empathy by the hotel. They offered no apology or recompense. There was no communication.

Cardiff Sandringham Hotel: Great Location in the center of town

by Peterodl

Nice property in the center of the city, only about 100 meters away from Cardiff Castle and about 5-10 mins. walk from the main train station.
I stayed in a single ensuit room which was typically European small but I had no problem with it. The room was well kept and clean with a small writing desk, flat screen lcd tv with lots of channels and a small table fan. The bed was pretty good and didn't feel lumpy.
The only problem I had with the room was with the shower. I would be alternating between frigid water and near boiling water with only a 1/2inch turn of the knob. Everything else was just fine.
There was no elevator in the hotel which may be trouble for those who cannot do steps but the front desk staff were friendly towards me all the time I passed them.
I'd stay there again. The location is great and worth the weird shower situation I had.

Plas Llanmihangel: The Best Place In Wales

by Balam

Described by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen as Hogwortsian Architecture at its spunkiest Plas Llanmihangel certainly is a fantastic place, An Elizabethan manor house set in beautiful country side it makes a really fantastic place to stay.
Its history goes back a long way, in the 12th c Plas Llanmihangel was owned by a Norman Knight and was probably just a one story building described as a grange. Not much else is known about the houses early history until Elizabethan times when from 1500 – 1685 it was the home of the Thomas Family who were one of Wales’s Oldest aristocratic families, by this time the house would have grown considerably. They also owned a House in Cowbridge which was their town house, that house was turned into a coaching Inn and is now The Bear Hotel.
Although the Oldest part of the house is now the cellar the Oldest part of the Living areas is it’s great Hall, a really lovely large room with a fantastic stone fire place decorated with the coats of arms of the Thomas family along with those of other Important Families. Above the door is a large coat of arms of The Tudors as the room was once used as a court room during the Tudor period. The cellars used as Dungeons.
The last Thomas to live at Plas Llanmihangel was Sir Robert Thomas who was also known as Sir Robert the Ass (which might give you an idea of why he was the last one). Sir Robert was useless at business and historical records show that he failed in one business venture after another and in the end had to sell off land and eventually the house to pay his debts. The house was purchased by Sir Humphrey Edwin, Lord Mayor of London in 1697. There is a large monument to him (and put there by him) in the nearby Church. Sir Humphrey was extremely rich so rich in fact that in a list of the recent survey of the Richest people since 1066 put together by the Sunday times placed him at number 236.
After Sir Humphrey the house was occupied by various renting tenants until 1860 when it was the home of the Jenkins Family who owned a Brewery in Cowbridge. The house has been in continual occupation since the 12th centaury

It is now owned by Sue and David Bear. They bought it in 1988 for just £130,000 and they have spent the last 20 years restoring this lovely Fortified Manor House. In order to help the house pay for its own restoration (or at least contribute towards it) they opened half the house as a B&B with both of them working hard to help people enjoy this lovely place.
Some of the interior doors are still secured from the inside by large pull bars which are built into the wall, a very old way of securing your door. Other great features are the deep grooves on the stone doorway to the Kitchen caused by years of knife sharpening and the kitchens original Bread Oven.

It really is a fantastic place and is certainly worth a visit and I can guarantee that you will want to go back again.

B&B is £35 per Person

Ty Coch Farm

by Krumel

Ty Coch Farm is ideally located if you are looking to get away from it all. The nearest village is Penmachno, and from there you are going steeply up into the mountains for a few miles before arriving at the farmhouse.

Due to its isolated location it is probably not the best place if you like to go partying at night, and if you're a cleanliness freak you may possibly not be too happy about some cobwebs. But if you are an outdoorsy sort of person and love animals, it is absolutely perfect.

And the breakfast deserves a special mention, as it was fantastic. Lots of choice and very well cooked, it really set you up for the day, served by a friendly and welcoming landlady.

Being animal lovers, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay in. On arrival we were immediately surrounded by a bunch of cats looking for cuddles. And then the border collie who was peeping over a stable door felt left out, and we of course had to go over to him then as well. And then of course there were the horses to check out and cute little lambs to watch.
