outside Builth Wells- a spring visit
Near my friend's house is an Iron Age burial mound, as identified by archaeologists. The mound has oak and ash trees growing on it, and bluebells too. It lies in a field beside the narrow road opposite Cefnycoed Farm.
In the distance is a small hill called the Fairy Mound, and in the far distance the Cambrian mountains that form the backbone of Wales.
Sheep are kept in the area, and when we went the lambs were quite large. The hedgerows were full of wild flowers: Cow parsley, ragged robin, periwinkles, primroses, violets, buttercups.
Squirrels and red kites can also be seen.
