Can anyone give me any info on pub quizzes in the Cardiff area please? Any where outsiders would be welcome - nothing too serious!!

The quizzes at The Conway and the Robin Hood in Pontcanna are popular, fun and open to all. The Conway seems less of a 'local', more cosmopolitan and mixed crowd. Though when I was last at the Robin Hood I was sitting not far away from Charlotte Church's mum! I haven't been to either of them for over 18 months but I imagine they are still running. You'll have to contact them to check which day of the week they are nowadays.

Hi Rhian,

I haven't been for a couple of years but the quiz at the Church Inn, Llanishen was good fun. I'm sure it's still running as it was very popular - it was on a Sunday night, a nice way to end the weekend before the dreaded Monday morning.

Cheers,
Vicki

just relax! this area is a very laid back farming community. go out at night to clubs and pubs in near by towns and meet the locals. i went to the pub in myddfai where this guy drank a pint of beer in no more than 2 seconds (not exagerating- if you don't believe me, go and see for yourself). later at night, all the locals starting singing folksongs in welsh- something you only see in movies.

Skull Attack

by tvor

There's a local brewery in Wales called Brains. One of their slogans in the past was "It's Brains You Want" ... indeed. The brewery was founded by Samuel Arthur Brain. One of their most popular brews is called Brains S.A. which is locally known as "Skull Attack"... for it's strength and effects the next day ! It's only 4.2% however, which is a bit weaker than most Canadian beers which weight in at 5%. Even so, Brains makes a popular range of beers so there's something for everyone

The Taff Trail

by HORSCHECK

The Taff Trail is one of the newer long distance footpath in Wales. It is used by both walkers and cyclists for trips of varying length between Cardiff Bay in the south and Brecon in the north. Between Cardiff Bay and Llandaff the trail follows the Taff embankment and crosses the Bute Park. All in all the trail covers a distance of 55 miles (88km).

Caerphilly Castle, a truly medieval castle (which is the third biggest in Europe), can be a marvellous place to see. Take the bus #26, #71 or #72, which will take you to the site. The important point is: *the bus back to Cardiff does NOT pass from the other side of the road*. It is always a good idea to ask the locals.

Roman Legionary Museum

by percy961

At the Roman Legionary Museum Caerleon, you will learn what made the Romans a formidable force.

You'll see how they lived, slept and ate; how they marched and practised for battle; which gods they worshipped, and which jewels they wore and valued.
