Rugby World Cup- accomodation (14th- 17th Sept)

Hi i am after after cheap accomodation (for myself and two others) for the 14th- 17th september (Rugby World Cup). if any one has any advice or know of any options it would be much appreciated. Is Cardiff Uni an option to stay? We are not after anything to flash, but some where which is relatively close to the stadium, and that gives us a place to sleep. It seems accomodation is at a premium for this period, so any help people could give would be invaluable. Send me an email if u could. cheers.

Hi - I live in Cardiff so will help as best I can! Accommodation is an absolute nightmare when there are games on in the stadium as I have experienced when trying to find places for friends to stay. If you don't mind travelling in on the bus (10 min journey) there is a great little hotel where my parents have stayed before called the Innkeeper's Lodge (Innkeeper's Lodge Cardiff, Tyn-y-Parc Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff, CF14 6BG Tel: 0845 11 26 080). They do good deals and might have availability. It's pretty hard to find cheap accommodation city centre during match times but there are loads of B&B's along Cathedral Road and Richmond Road you could try, both are walking distance to the stadium. Only problem is that most of them probably won't have info on the internet cos they're all quite small. I'm pretty sure the uni don't do accommodation, especially as it's term time in September.

If I have any brainwaves about it I'll get back to you.

Good luck (pob luc)!

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-291777-1-1-Travel-0-0-Cardiff-discussion.html. VT member Mob1us has given the number for the university.

Good luck!

Fireworks, fireworks and more fireworks!!!!

by aaaarrgh

Cardiff Council obviously have a good arrangement with a pyrotechnics company. Every major event in the city is accompanied by a massive display of FIREWORKS. I am sure Cardiff is not the only city to do this well. But the displays are always spectacular. They take place at New Year and Bonfire Night, after every major sports final, after music festivals, at the opening of new buildings (like the Opera House in November 2004).

Often they last for 20-30 minutes!! I know I shouldn't complain, we are very lucky. But sometimes Cardiff can fell like downtown Bagdad, or Palestine :-))

The New Year events are usually spectacular with a big fairground , ice rink and fireworks in the city centre.

In the first week of November, usually Saturday, each year 'Cardiff Round Table' hold a massive firework display in Coopers Field, behind Cardiff Castle. There is an admission charge but the display is very well done, there is an enormous fire, music and food stalls.

There are other regular events which are excellent entertainment, especially the Cardiff Big Weekend of music and fairground rides, the first weekend of August.

Check out Cardiff Council's List of Events.

An great gym and sports centre with good outdoor courts and football facilities. I came here for my personal trainer course and was very impressed by the location close to Sophia Gardens with town just a short walk away.

The facility is clean and has resonable rates. Ideal for people looking for a local gym..
