(Best Western Plus) Maldron Hotel Cardiff: Comfortable, Convenient and Affordable
The hotel seemed new and modern overall. My 8th-floor room was of a good size (especially for Europe), very nicely decorated and clean. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the room was, despite being literally on top of the Cardiff Central Train Station.
There were plenty of bath and hand towels, but no washcloths. Ventilation in the bathroom needs to be improved, otherwise, I fear a mold problem could develop as I've seen in other UK hotels.
I was greeted warmly by the reception staff, and welcomed with a 10% coupon off a drink at the hotel's bar. This is now my go-to hotel in Cardiff.
Unique Quality: You can't beat the location of this hotel. Everything, from Cardiff Central Train station to Cardiff Castle, is within walking distance.

The Golden Coast of Southern Wales: Save money on accommodation
Check out the Tourist Information Centre in Porthcawl or Bridgend 01656 786639 or 01656 654906 as Porthcawl and Bridgend are just 20 minutes away from Cardiff. There is a rail station at Bridgend and the day return ticket is around £5 or less if travelling after 9am. And as an added advantage, accommodation is cheaper than in Cardiff. Have a great time
Unique Quality: Porthcawl sits on 8 miles of Blue Flag coastline with no less than seven bays. One for each day of the week. Bridgend has plenty of nightlife and is just a short train ride from Cardiff or Swansea.

Future Inn: Handy for Cardiff Bay
This new hotel is located on a modern retail park, so it is not the most picturesque of locations, but it is convenient for the Millennium Centre and Cardiff Bay.
Rooms have private facilities, tea/coffee making facilities (including the all-important biscuits), and flat screen TV/internet.
The 'Thomas' restaurant serves contemporary Welsh food.
Service of tea and coffee at breakfast was very slow when I visited.
Unique Quality: The internet screen in the rooms is very useful, though navigation is a bit clumsy.

Cardiff Caravan Park: Camping In Cardiff
Although we had a bit of a tough time finding it, wandering around Cardiff for hours with our heavy backpacks, this caravan and camping park was one of the best we stayed in during a three month jaunt to Britain. Friendly management, extremely central location (10 minutes walk along a river and through a gorgeous park to the city center), hot and spacious showers in two toilet blocks, bike rentals, peaceful area, and friendly campers make this a fantastic place to crash.
Unique Quality: The shower facilities were excellent - no cramped spaces, hangers and benches to put your stuff down, unlimited and unmetered hot water, and quite clean. Also, all the normal facilities were there - washer/dryer, dish sinks, handwash sinks, and an electric teapot. Great and friendly management. This is the only camping park in Cardiff and it's open year round.

Various choices of prices: Cathedral Road for 'Bed & Breakfast'
Unique Quality: The Cathedral Road area of Cardiff is by far the nicest place to find pretty hotels and 'bed & breakfast' accommodation. It is a splendid tree-lined avenue which leads out from near Cardiff Castle through the conservation zone of Pontcanna towards Llandaff Cathedral.
The Victorian houses are enormous and many have now become hotels. So there is a large number to choose from. I counted 17 along Cathedral Road, and probably missed one or two.
Because I live in Cardiff I will not mislead you and pretend I have stayed in 'bed & breakfast' here. But when friends and work colleagues have come to Cardiff they have all stayed on Cathedral Road and enjoyed the experience.
One word of warning - Cathedral Road is very long. Despite the fact that it starts close to the city centre, you may want to catch a taxi if you do not have a car and have heavy bags!!
In contrast to Cathedral Road, Newport Road (the opposite side of the city) is rougher and more 'seedy', not nearly so nice.

I CAN'T REALLY COMMENT ON...
I CAN'T REALLY COMMENT ON ACCOMMODATION BECAUSE I ACTUALLY LIVE THERE, BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT STAYING IN THE CITY CENTRE IF YOU WISH TO KEEP YOR COSTS DOWN, THERE ARE SOME VERY AFFORDABLE B & B'S AROUND

Cardiff is expensive, I like...
Cardiff is expensive, I like to stay in the city center when I go places, Paid about 30pounds a night at a bed and breakfast smack dab in the center.
Try Swansea, to the west of Cardiff, It has a great nightlife, a castle in the city center surrounded by modern buildings, and CHEAP bed and breakfasts' litter the beachside.
