We stayed 1 night on 14/07
The room was quiet but hot. The beddings and towels were clean
Although the auto-checkin machine didn't work well, the staff was helpful.
What can you ask for by paying only 25.5 pounds for a family room in Cardiff city centre?

Best cheap hotel in Cardiff!

We did a walk in last Bank Holiday weekend. It was spur of the moment, as we came in from Brizzle (Bristol). Helpful staff. I would not recommend this hotel to older people, as it is right in the centre of the party scene. For young people, it's the bee's knees. Where else can you drink to your heart's content, and literally CRAWL home.... a must do for stags and hens... Just watch out for the occassional drunk passed out in the hallway, and the lairy blokes on the street after a long night. Not a good place for children either. The castle is at the end of the road, and the waterfront is a 15 minute walk. Parking is available at the rear of the hotel..... and it's not too bad. $10.50/24 hours.

This place couldn't be more central if the city had been purpose built around it! All of Cardiff's main amenities are within an easy walk from here with the Bus and Train Station just minutes walk meaning that anywhere to get to in the area by public transport is at your fingertips! Two of Cardiff's main Cafe/Restaurant areas, the Brewery 1/4 and Mill Lane are literally across the road, as well as a couple of the arcades.

Best of all, Travelodge seems to be doing permanent special offers including the current one where you can get a room for as little as £25 if you book in advance via the internet - even better was when my mother visited and I managed to get her and her partner a room for a mere £5 on a special they were running a few months ago! (don't tell her! ;-) )

All the rooms seem modern, well appointed and in good condition with the usual extras like a TV, phone and complimentary breakfast.

So where is the downside!!?

Well it is built on top of a raucous Walkabout Pub/Nightclub - and if Cardiff is famous for one thing, it is its massive club scene!

Yep, St Marys Street is Cardiff's premier clubbing spot with wall-to-wall bars and clubs along its entire length!

Mum stayed on a Wednesday, so I can't comment except to say that although it is still busy in town on Wednesdays, she had a good nights sleep - must be the triple-glazing!

Unique Quality: So what if it's over a nightclub!!?

If you can't beat them - join them I say!

That way you won't be kept up by the noise and have a good time! :-)

Travelodge - St Mary's Street

I haven't stayed there, but I imagine it's exactly the same as all the other Travelodges you get in the UK. Decent rooms/facilities at a decent price. Can be booked on-line.

Unique Quality: If your looking for lively night life, you'll be right in the heart of the action right on St Mary's Street, which holds the majority of the city centre pubs, bars and clubs.

Not great for car parking (in NCP or railway station car park nearby)

If you're not looking for the shortest stagger home after 'one too many' then it might be a bit noisy for you, especially on Friday and Saturday nights... maybe they have amazing sound-proofing... not sure
