    I did not exactly stay in the Vatican, but in Roma.

    The location of the Scott House hotel is just perfect. It was only about 100 metres towards the Termini station (and the Subway station). Like this it was easy to make the trip to Vatican City.

    The Scott House is a two star hotel with a friendly staff. In the building the hotel was located on the 4th and 5th floor, and nothing to worry there was an elevator.

    The room looked very new, and there was a shower / toilet in the room and also cable TV.

    Breakfast was included, there was also free internet.

    For the first two days I paid 41 euro per night (mid season), and for the other two nights I paid 68 euros per night (high season began on September 6th).

    The fantastic location;

    The room was very quiet (there was a rock concert on the square in front of Termini Station, and with closed windows it was completely silent);

    The friendly staff.

    This facility is in the middle of an apartment complex, but the rooms in one or two buildings are rented out for travelers. The facilities include full kitchens in every apartment, washer/dryer downstairs, fold-out beds so the whole family can stay in one apartment, and off-street parking for an extra fee.
    This place is designed for people who are going to stay a week or more (months in some cases).

    There is no public hotel in Vatican - this is the main building, with the emblem of the pope in front - so his appartment might be in there.

  • There are snack bars in museum, you will not have problems if you become terribly hungry.
    And if you become thirsty – there are fountains with drinkable water on the square.

  • Vatican is so small, that you won’t need accommodation there, the best 'accommodation' is to sit in the St. Peter’s square on the steps near the colons in the sun, seeing all the beauty, talking to people, watching pigeons, enjoying the views and relaxing.

  • Although I've been to the Vatican half a dozen times, I never list it among the countries I've visited because I have never actually stayed overnight there (my own personal criterion for having 'visited' a country). As far as I know, there is no tourist accommodation in the Vatican.

    The Spring House Hotel: The Spring House Hotel
  • Tip Rating:
  • By DesertRat on August 24, 2002
  • This is a smallish, family-run hotel with very cheery rooms and baths for a fairly modest 102,000 lire for a double (at least that's what they were last summer). Best of all, it's incredibly well-located, all of about five minutes' walk from the entrance to the Vatican Museums in a very quiet neighborhood -- for Rome, anyway. You won't be bothered by the sounds of motorcycles at all hours here!
