Caring, informative but dirty and out of center

Nice modern appartment for rent with wifi and aircondition on walking distance from metro station and train station. We paid 200 euro for 3 nights. It is clean and modern.
local home, use of all wifi, washing machine, clean, close to US embassy

Had a hard time finding the place, its up an alley through a door way in a tiny courtyard. but great location its just inside the east gate to the old town near Maidens tower and all old town attractions. Baxlul went way above and beyond helping us when we weren't allowed to leave the country due to visa problems, he alone makes your stay in Azerbaijan 1000 times easier. I can see how if it was fully booked it would be quite crowded, i would advise avoiding the peak months. But best deal in Baku and Baxlul is the man.
Its an apartment really, not so much a hostel. but internet access(56k) and a kitchen. beds are uncomfortable.
My friend and I were the 11th & 12th guest to stay at this new hostel located in the walls of the Old City of Baku. We got there at 0500 or so and woke the place up but the manager, Ozan, was kind enough to let us in and get us sorted. The place is a little misleading from the web site regarding size but it made up for it with good memories. That's one of the key components of a good hostel the other being cleanliness and this was in place too.
The one thing that stands out in for 1000 Camels is the price- $20 US. There were plenty of places higher rates but nothing clean and centrally located for the money we paid.
Canub isn't that great and the cleaning ladies work nights as hookers and love disturbing guests. The price is too overcharge for what you get. To pay 50-60 manats for Canub is a crime!!! Araz hotel - rooms, suffering with severe damp problems, browned paper peeling from the walls, paint chipping from the ceiling, rotten windows, doing nothing to keep out the noise of the busy road below and dirty curtains hanging precariously from two or three points on the curtain rail and bed linen, oh, i think it was not washed after previous clients. All the more they are not recommended, if you travel with your girlfriend.
poor renovation, shared bathroom, insanitariness, dirty, overcharge price, etc.
50 new manat the single, 60 new manat the double. Basic facilities, clean rooms and bathrooms (LP info seems outdated), air-con. Breakfast is included in the price, but use of the "luggage room" seems to require 2 manats extra :-). One of the receptionists is fluent in English, hotel staff is generally friendly but less helpful.
excellent location allowed easy moving in and around Baku, both day and night.
nice place to stay, good english spoken by the two brothers (one more friendly and laid back than the other, mind), the fantastic old hammam to use, nice food prepared on request. A good place to stay, certainly, but it is getting expensive for what the accomodation actually is - ie no running water, single squat toilet, shared rooms. I paid the same to stay here as I paid to stay at the amazingly good and good value Caravanserai hotel in Sheki, $20.
Traveling a lot, i found out that personal accommodation is the best alternative to any hotel
(of course, if you will stay in any country more than 2-3 days...):
1 reason- BUDGET!!! To rent the apartment is cheaper than to book a room in the hotel...
2 reason- COMFORT!!! If you rent the apartment you will have an opportunity to have your own house holding: a room, a bathroom and a kitchen, which you will not have in cheap hotels...All these also safe your budget...
3 reason- PERSONALITY!!! Also if you rent the apartment, you will get your own temporary real estate and can do there all you want (to invite smb, to come back home at any time you want etc...)
So if you want i can advice you Travelazerbaijan company...All their apartments are in the centre of Baku and their prices are very cheap.
This hotel is set next to a supermarket in a nondescript rectangular building. The lobby has nice Azeri carpets and furnishings and the bell boy was very helpful, even carrying my heavy luggage up the stairs to my room (there is no lift).
The room was only ok. It is supposed to be a 4-star hotel, but by US, European or SE Asian standards, I'd call it a 1 to 2 star place. The room was a bit rundown and the bathroom was only mostly clean.
The worst part was that the air conditoning was broken and it was a pretty hot day. The management promised to fix it but never did.
They gave us a discounted rate because of the broken air conditioning but it was still about US $70, with the company discount, per room. Regular price should be around US $100, with no discounts. Far too expensive for a place with zero character, although it did include breakfast.
There was really nothing remarkable about this hotel except for the good bell boy service.

Duyma is a new hotel, just opened at the beginning of May 2005. It's a 4-storey building right at the foothill of a beautiful mountain with green forests. It is in the deep end of Vandam village in the region of Gabala. I would recommend anyone traveling to Gabala to stay there. Because you are near all the sightseeing. 7 beauties waterfalls is only 15 mins away driving and downtown Gabala is also not faraway.
The location of this place is the best thing about it. It's surrounded by Caucasus mountains, there is a river running near the hotel and right next to the building there is a beautiful small pond. Also you can find a number of waterfalls if you hike up the mountain behind the hotel.
The hotel has its own restaurant and bar. The food is not bad, however you may want to try the other restaurants along the road going to the village. The rooms are clean, have A/C and hot water. The staff is very friendly!
