There were few, not many Afro-American. There are many Americans/Europeans in Bahrain though. Few also from African.

There are many supermarkets in Bahrain, you can find many American/European food. Try Géant hypermarket for large choice of groceries.

Don't worry, Bahrain is safe, you will enjoy. Although the country/city is small, but pleasant and modern enough.

Most of American/European expatriates lives in Budaiya/Saar area where there are many villa/compound-villa. Jufair area (near US Naval base) also one good choice with its luxury apartment towers.

See my Bahrain VT pages for some info.

I assume there were more Americans than nowadays, before US naval central base for Middle East was moved to Doha - Qatar sometimes ago.

Check gulf-daily-news.com in Classifieds section for some info regarding standard salary, housing/apartment rent prices.

Travel Tips for Manama

Carpet Shopping

by tlcsha

It is an incredible experience to walk into any of the carpet shops and have them start flopping carpets for you. They keep them coming until you can no longer see over the stack. Often you will be offered a beverage or sometimes shwarma to eat. A good salesperson should be able to tell you a lot about each carpet. Haggling is expected, but it can be difficult if you are not aware of the value of the carpet. Shop prepared! I recommend finding the type of carpet your interested in and then searching the internet for more info. Fun even if you don't buy.
