The airline paid for my hotel room because of a flight delay. The hotel they sent me to was the Bahrain International Hotel. It was clean and well run and I liked it just fine for the short time I was there. Photo here is of the streets of Manama near the hotel.
I had an airline voucher to eat at the restaurant at the Bahrain International Hotel. It was on the second floor and had a fine buffet. Every thing I tried from the buffet was quite good. I could not say any one thing was my favorite because all the food was very good.
From Airport to Central Manama (Bahrain International Hotel/Bab al Bahrain) BD5 .00 to 7.00 Around US$14.00 to 18.00 depending on Bargaining, Yes, if you get on without asking the cost you will be charged higher, there is no meter and no fixed fare. The normal price was BD2.5 to 3 but they suddenly increased it more then double.
Some Hotels Provide Complimentary Pick and Drop, and I heared there is a shuttle bus service as well but have'nt seen or used it yet.

Does anyone know anything about either this company (website is www.southtravels.com) or the hotel - looking for a cheap place to stay on our stopover in Bahrain and these guys have quoted the best price at this hotel...
We're basically just crashing there for the night - arrive at 22:00 and fly out again 13:00 next day, so simply want somewhere we can get a bite to eat and a good nights sleep.
Whats a reasonable taxi fare to the city centre from the airport?

I can recomend you 2 hotels
1. Hotel San Rock (near Manama Central Market, close to LULU Shopping Mall and Main Bus Stop from where youcan get Airport Coach) @ BD19 including breakfast, the hotel is very good nice rooms and attchaed bath considering the price
2. Hotel Half Moon, near Old Market/Bab Al Bahrain, behind the Gulf International Hotel. this one is close to all the nigh clubs/bars and eating places, the rate I paid was BD 15 without breakfast, Moderate Accomodation, and bath Room, old furniture, suiteable for short stay
The Cheapest accomodation you can find in Bahrain is SEEF HOTEL infact not a hotel you can call it INN, shared bath room, suited for backpakers, the location is right infront of Bahrain International Hotel (inside the street on the right hand side, old building) Rate BD 8
Taxi fare to the Airport wont be more then 5 Dinar
(1 Dinar = US$3.75)

You may find hotels around Exhibition Road, not too far from airport and lots of shops, restaurants, and bar/clubs.
