Cost of Living

by NewManamaMember

Hi,

I have been offered a job in Manama.

In this regard, pls help me to know more on the below clarifications . I am a bit puzzled to take decision.

1. How much Dhinar it will be for a normal single bedroom flat?

2. How much i should spend for a shared accomadation?

3. How about the montly expenses for a Vegetarian per month?

4. What should i do if my spouse wants to take up a job there?

5. Is there anything i should reallly demand from my employer?

Pls let me know the above details. Your help will be very much appreciated.

Awaiting a quicker response.

well for a person just arrived and wanting accomodation, a single bedroom furnished bedroom will be as low as 140 -150 Bahrain Dinars... which i think is Rs 27500 indian rupees. So shared accomodation will be around 70 BD

Your monthly food expenses could be - 1000 fils make a BD - so say the simplest food is chappatis and a curry which would be 200 fils into 3 times a day round about a BD a day so 31BD a month maximum. thats if you are simple. otherwise you could spead 2 BD a day and that would work out more.

First you go up and after three months you will recieve family status. Once you recieve family status you can bring up your wife. So in the time that you are here look out for her and you should find a job for her.

Try and get the details of the contract beforehand... a maids salary is BD 50 while a junior could earn BD300 salaries about BD 500 are good and over BD1000 you are well-off. normally contracts are for two years. Dont believe in them telling you that they will raise it later. Fix it once and for all.

Bahrian is teeming with Indians, Pakis and all the rest.. so you should have a great time. It also has a lot of shopping malls and family places so its not that intimidating. Try your luck

Visit my Bahrain page for more information (http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/73a2c/b19/)

In addition:
4. Your wife can't get a job when using visit/family visa. Moreover there's a minimum salary requirement to bring your wife/family together with you. However, she can apply for a job and get the employer sponsors her (change of visa).

5. Arrangement of accommodation, transportation, medical insurance, if any.

Hi,

Thanks for wonderful guidance. I am also in the same boat. I have signed the offer letter about a mechanical engineering job about 12 days back. But I still have to get VISA. Generally how long does it take to get the visa? My company satrted the process (they only asked my passport copies) about 7 days back. I am a bit worried, as I know very little about working abroad. Kindly guide me about the following:

1) I shall be provided with bachelor accommodation. What essentials should I bring in from India (something cheap in India, but costly there (medicines??))?

2) Is the salary absolutely tax-free, as is being told?

3) How difficult will it be for my spouse (once she arrives) to get a job there?

Thanks in advance, I am already indebted to the forum as I got to know a lot about Bahrain from it.

Best Regards,

Travel Tips for Manama

Diving and Snorkelling

by xiquinho

There are numerous opportunities for diving and snorkelling in the Arabian Sea where you can explore the beautiful coral reefs and wrecks that surround the islands.

Indo-Pacific species such as clown fish, turtles, rays, lion fish, grouper, snapper, crayfish and even whale sharks abound. Dugongs (sea cows) can be seen feeding on the sea grass in the southern waters of Bahrain during the cooler winter months. Conditions are excellent for exploring the country’s aquatic life with clear, warm waters most of the year round and of course, a beautiful climate.

Scuba and snorkelling education, equipment and excursions are available to an international standard through various dive centres. Try PADI 5 Star Dive Centre Aquatique (Tel: +973 271-780), located in Manama.

If you fancy doing a spot of fishing while you’re here, regular local catches include tuna, mackerel, trevally and even barracuda.
