I stay at The Diplomat quite regularly (monthly) and it is normally a good place to stay in Bahrain.
However I should warn people that there is now (July 2008) MAJOR construction going on directly in front of the hotel, which commences at 6.30am and continues until 7.00pm.
On a week day this wouldn't be a problem as I'd be up and off to work, but construction is also occurring on weekends.
Do not stay here if you're looking for a decent night's sleep any time before at least mid-2009.
Good location, good hotel, good spa. But WAY noisy for the time being.

Hotel central. Clean and tidy rooms. Outdoor pool and ok gym. Restaurant, coffee shop and pub in hotel. Good rates.
Good rates.
An excellent, top-quality five-star hotel with luxurious, large rooms and fourteen bars & restaurants.
Staff are welcoming and friendly, the food is absolute top quality - at least in the Italian Restaurant 'La Pergola' and the huge breakfast buffet. Prices are remarkably cheap, especially considering the quality of the hotel and the food.

I stayed in a single room with bath and TV. The room was a little bit run down but very cheap.
A single room is 7.5 BD for non members. The cheapest option is a 4 bed room for 3.5 BD
The hotel is basic but central, near the airport and cheap!

The hotel is located near Bab-al-Bahrain in a central location and at 10 Dinar per night (single) fairly cheap.
But at this price don't expect too much : The bath rooms are grubby and the rooms are outright dirty. 2 am wake-up call by Chinese prostitutes is apparently standard - heed the warning printed on the room door and don't open it at night.
Cheap but rather low quality
good service, ample breakfast, nice rooms, inviting swimming pool
pool was nice and view of king's palace

We stayed for 5 days in Golden City Plaza. About 20 minutes drive to reach Manama City Center. Bit hard to locate if it would be your first trip to Bahrain.
The apartment itself is very nice...2 big rooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, dining room & kitchen. Other amenities like television with satellite dish, gas range, washing machine, refrigerator, plates, glasses etc are all provided.
Though they provide towels, it is more hygienic to bring your own.
Grocery, retsaurants and hospital are just nearby.

Its the best hotel in Bahrain but its expensive ... 5 stars hotel and really beautiful, the best beach in Bahrain its in Ritz Carlton because here we don't have proper beaches its really crazy Island with no Beaches, if you comee from outside you pay entrence 30 BD 80 US Dollars to go to the beach, also they have the Trader Vicks, Its a cool bar , Band from cuba and Delicious cocktails :)
Everything
Our stay was great. It was a nice decent hotel. Good for people looking for budget hotel. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was very hospitable.
Q: bahrain airport "hi im at bahrain airport for 3 hours when i travel to india. do you think i should pay to stay in the lounge with free food and..."
A: "If your paying to go into a lounge then the food and drink are not really free are they? There's no such thing as a "free lunch""
