hotel located on the right by lenoreva The name Saodzako is in the lonely planet guide, but not on the hotel itself - but you will know you are in the right place when you are right next to the train station. This is a pretty cheap option - we had a triple with 3 single beds for about $8 per person (no breakfast). PROBLEMS: It was FREEZING! However, the owner was kind enough to bring bottles of hot water to put in our beds to warm us up. It was DARK! Once you turned off the lights, you were in complete darkness - like the darkness of a cave underground. It SHOOK in the middle of the night due to the train that came by only 3 feet from our room. But there is only 1 train, so it not too bad.
There is no guarded parking provided by the hotel, but Camilla was approached by a man who offered "protection" for a fee. This is more of a "if you pay me, I won't do anything to your car, but if you don't..." threat, but what can you do? We didn't stay here. We checked this place out since the woman at the information booth at the border crossing at Sapri said it was nice, and the Lonely Planet described it as "....a pleasantly simple place...." If "'pleasantly simple" means crumbling walls, balconies filled with junk, funky odors, etc., then they've got it. It was just horrid. In addition, there was some cafe/coffee shop/betting/whatever hang out on the first floor. Not that it wouldn't be quiet, but I felt like I was on show walking up to the reception. We actually had met the owner of Hotel Lotus at the border crossing, although he never told us the name of the hotel he owned at the time, just that he would drive us there. We declined. When we ran into him when leaving the hotel, he asked what was wrong. We just said, well, we want to stay somewhere 'nice.' As far as I was concerned, that could be anywhere else. That said, at least this means that at least one person associated with Hotel Lotus speak at least rudimentary English. Theme: Hotel

When i was planning my trip to Tbilisi, i did not find any youth hostels or cheap hotels in internet...So i decided to write to some cheap hotels on their e-mails and asked if they have any room for 2 persons by 30$ per day...I was answered only by Eka (she is the owner of the hotel Kolkhi) that she can reserve for me a room in their hotel for 2 persons by 30$ per day...But this price will be without breakfast and there will not be TV and Phone in it...But i did not really need them, cos i knew, that i'd come home very late, tired after walking and would have no any wish to watch TV and there was not anybody who wanted to call me, cos i did not know anybody in Georgia :)) So, I agreed and Eka called me the day before my coming to Tbilisi and explained how can i get to their hotel from rail way station...i had to use 78-bus by 20 tetry or 67-marshrutka by 50 tetry... When i reached to my hotel, i was shown my room and it was very clean and comfortable(two separate beds, bedside-table with night-lamp on it, table with armchair and bureau with mirror, and also wardrobe(with many small and big towels, clean cotton sheets,pillow-cases,blanket covers)and there was excellent separate lavatory just in my room(sink, toilet, bath, round the clock cold and hot water)... I really liked this hotel, cos it was situated just in the centre of Tbilisi ( two blocks up from Rustavelli ave), very cheap (30$ per day for two persons) and very clean and comfortable for that low price . For information - there is no such low price (30$ per day) on their web-site. You can write to their e-mail and ask Eka (she is the owner of this hotel) to give you a room for 30$ as i have done. I think she will make concessions...

Hotel Borjomi by lenoreva This was an upgrade from our night at the Saodzako for sure! Because it was off season, we got a discount of nearly 50% too. Our room was large and comfy with a great shower. Can't complain! Breakfast was included, but was a bit bizzare since they served us cake.

Lia’s guesthouse has a good location (3 minutes walk from the main town square up the hill) easy to reach everywhere in Kutaisi. You will probably be offered a room at the ground floor in the backyard, shared baths but with hot water all the time. Being “quite a character herself”, Lia will probably ask payment (20 lari, no breakfast) the minute you are shown the room. You can even use the fridge on the corridor, but should ask for permission first.
The only minus – if your room is on groundfloor, the neighbours will be able to see everything in your room, through the windows which open directly in their noses. However, there’re curtains, and besides….after a nice long day, you’ll surely fall asleep immediately. At some backpacker’s recommendation, I started looking for this hotel, hidden in the complicated network of narrow streets in old T’bilisi. The telephone number in the LP 2004 edition was no longer valid, so I relied on a friendly old lady who walked me to the hotel. In fact, this is not a hotel, but a guesthouse, in which the rooms from the second and the third floors were converted for rent. Second floor has 3 classic furniture rooms, while the 3 rustic rooms at the attic share a large bathroom. Old fashioned air-con was of much help during the hot August weather.
The most charming and friendly budget option in the old centre of T’bilisi. Panoramic views over the city from the terrace, billiard, quiet, and last but not least, amazing collection of antiques and old furniture. Nana and her family continue to be a great, helpful and friendly host, in her charming historical house near the town square. In fact, staying at Nana was a unique experience, I got the feeling of a trip back to a golden age of romantic travel, before mass tourism and industrial civilisation.
Besides, the food she prepares and voluntarily serves is simply delicious! And you can hire her husband, together with car, for some trips to the nearby sites as far as Davit Gareji! The Caucasus is jammed packed with places to stay but unfortunately the Soviet hotels are swamped with refugees from the troubled areas not to mention bathrooms that dont have water. The best places to stay are homestays and they are clean cheap and usually located in a decent area. The homestay experience is nice but some homestays are run with KGB type stiffness with strict curfews and rules and regulations regarding toilet paper to hot water. Overall, homestays are the way to go in Georgia.

Venera is doing the washing up by MalenaN Venera is a very kind woman and she takes care of you while you are there. When I was in Kazbegi I had a terrible cough. Both evenings Venera brought me a bucket of hot water, for my feet, and a blanket before going to bed. Theme: Other
