I have been to Tblisi twice and I found a really nice place to stay...both visits. In a family's home and for 25 dollars I had my own large rooom, with balcony, includes all meals, share bathroom with family. Super location, 3 min walk to subway and downtown Tblisi. They speak english and extend warm hospitality. You can email: andrewatoev@aol.com Have a great time!

Travel Tips for T'bilisi

day trips/excursions

by ellielou

As mentioned on my Tbilisi and Georgia pages, we mostly based ourselves in Tbilisi, and took some day trips. For the most part, they were via marshrutka, picked up at Didube station, but to get to Davit Gareja, we hired a taxi. As of this writing, the going rate for a taxi for the day seems to be 100 laris.

Taste of Georgia..wines

by marsistanbul

Historically, well known winemaking regions in Georgia is Kakheti, with Alazi river valley in it.Alazi Valley is located at 200-500m above the sea level and is spread from northwest to southeast at 110 km,its average width is about 20 km.
From the left bank Alazani Valley is walled by 3000-4000 m high mountains og Great Caucasus and from the right bank by Tsiv-Gombori mountain ranges.Such a unique geographical location and diversified soils, from clay mild fertile to low fertile sandy-stony,presents ideal terms for vineyards

The Old Flag

by Doctor38

This flag was the Official flag during soviet time. After independence the Georgian government decided to go back to their historic old flag that you see on the my front page (white flag with 5 red crosses)

day trip to gori

by call_me_rhia

Gori is an industrial city in the Shida Kartli province of Georgia, about 2 hours from tbilisi, which no one woud ever mention or visit, if it was not for a very famous former resident and the large museum dedicated to him. Gori is in fact the birthplace of Joseph Vassariovic Djugashvili - which you may know better by the nickname Stalin, meaning "iron". You can see the last standing statue to him in the former Soviet Union is in Gori.

People are still very fond of him in Gori, and will not fail to tell you, and it's possibly the only place in Georgia where you'll feel that the population is regretting the times of the Great Soviet Union. This comes across quite as a surprise, since during his rule Stalin did not do his fellow Georgian countrymen any favour (actually he murdred many and exiled many others).

Arriving in Tbilisi by bus

by JohnniOmani

Most people arrive at the Didube bus station (from within Georgia) and get a taxi to the city which runs from 5 to 7 Lari. A cheaper and easier way is to go through the bazaar and look for the red M metro sign. Go up the stairs and buy a red token for 20 cents and get on the right side of the platform. It is 4 stops to the Marjanishvili station (near hostels) and 5 to the center of town (Rustaveli).
