 | | | | Nasi Gvedtadze's Homestay: T'bilisi Traveler's Popular Budget Option | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
GEL20.00/night. Pros: 1. Great place to meet other travelers and to arrange trips to Davit Gareja, Svaneti, Tusheti, Kazbegi etc. 2. Very convenient location just 2 minutes walk from Marjanashvili Metro Station and grocery stores and cafés nearby. 3. Nasi speaks pretty alright English and fluent German. Dispenses good advice for travel around Georgia. 4. Nasi's really caring when I was sick. She took my temperature, gave me a blanket and some fruit juice and even offered me a bed to rest in, even though I wasn't staying for the night. I'd just returned to the house to hang out after spending 4 nights in Svaneti, on my way to Trabzon. She'd have balked and charged me for the use of the bed in any other circumstance, but transformed into a kindly matron when I fell ill. She's after all, just like every other grannies all over the world... caring and dotes on everyone. Grannies are the best! Cons: 1. It was like living in a dorm run by a mercenary, analretentive, school-marmish mistress. She has rules you've to agree to abide by. No sitting on the bed. I was once caught red-handed after waking up, still bleary-eyed... and greeted with a booming "KOLYA! WHY YOU SIT ON THE BED?! *slams chair* YOU DON'T SEE CHAIR? *points to chairs in the middle of the room*" Also if you don't return by midnight, you're locked out. Sometimes, she locks the gates at a little past 11:30pm. 2. Not the best value for money. Cold Showers Extra GEL1.00. Hot Showers Extra GEL2.00. She charges you for charging your camera batteries too. I was charged for someone else's too. Was wrongly accused... realized I was in no position to argue and not wanting to be a rat, grudgingly paid GEL 3.00. 3. You sometimes share beds with complete strangers. And you might get really sucky beds, like the one in before the big Piano room. That connecting room was stuffy and airless and you get a bed which was more like a hard sofa... and guests putting up in the Piano room walk past you all the time they need to go to the restroom. | | | | Guesthouse Nika: At Home in Tbilisi | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Genora's "Guesthouse Nika" was my home for 10 days while in Tbilisi. I had a nice room and bath, with a good, solid breakfast for a very good price. Genora speaks Russian and some English. She is a real sweetheart, and will help arrange transit to and from airport. I would definitely recommend the guesthouse. Her home is in the western part of the city, south of the river. It is too far to walk to the central business district, but there are plenty of taxis and marshrutkas around. ATMs, cash exchange bureaus and grocery stores are plentiful in the area.
The Guesthouse Nika is used extensively by the Peace Corps volunteers in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Of course, none of them are assigned to the city, but their headquarters is in Tbilisi and they come there on leave, to check mail, do bookkeeping, etc. And when they are in Tbilisi, they stay at the Guesthouse Nika. Consequently, there is a constant turnover of interesting, intelligent, English-speakers at the pension. For a newcomer, they can offer very useful insight into the culture. The guesthouse is on a quiet street, with a courtyard and pretty flower garden and orchard. There is a covered patio for breakfast and late-night parties and bull-sessions. There is a refrigerator handy for cooling beer, water, etc. It is easy to make friends at the Guesthouse Nika. | | | | hotel boni: two names and three different spellings | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Welcome to hotel charm - also spelled sharmi but... ignore the name while looking for it, because the sign on the lamp-post says hotel boni. It's a long complicated story, but do ask the very friendly owner Nino about it. And by the way, the hotel is a guesthouse...
A wonderful place to stay... with not many rooms and a homely feeling. Some rooms have en-suite bathrooms and other not - but all have period furniture and, if you look carefully, even a noisy air conditioning system. Pillows are annoyingly huge... Breakfast (included) is wonderful and taken in a dining-room with a massive white piano, it includes home-made yoghurt, bread, butter, jam, biscuits, fruits, boiled eggs, cheese and salami with tea or coffee. We paid 60 dollars for an ensuite room Leave a Comment Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 11 Chakhrukhadze st.Phone: (+995 32) 985333Directions: in a street parallel to shavteli kucha - in the old townWebsite: http://www.hotelcharm.ge Other Contact: contact@HotelCharm.ge
