The KFAR BLUM KIBBUTZ HOTEL in UPPER GALILEE, located in one of the most scenic parts of Israel - the fertile HULEH VALLEY. The Jordan river flows alongside the kibbutz and Mount Hermon, snowcapped in winter, looms against the sky. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. You'll enjoy farm-fresh meals. There are facilities for tennis, basketball, swimming (Olympic-size pool), jogging (400- meter running track), kayaking on the Jordan. You'll know more about unique kibbutz lifestyle.
Kayaking or rafting in the Jordan River

If you like this kind of adventures then there ar a few places in the North of Israel that can offer you this excitment in the Jordan River.
One place like that i Kfar Blum (Blum Village)which is not far from Qiryat Shmona.
One thing though, this river can be very tricky at times and people underestimate its danger so don't do this activities on your own and in areas which are not mean to that, other then that its a real fun !
"Mighty" Jordan River
by Martin_S.
Who decided that the Jordan River was "MIGHTY"??? Well either they never saw the river, or they had an even SMALLER river to compare it to...The Jordan River is located in the Galilee in what is called the Etzbah, or finger, of the Galilee, the northeastern portion that juts up into Syria and Lebanon. The Jordan itself receives water from several sources such as the Snir, Dan, Hatzbani, Tanor and other smaller streams. There is some white water rafting areas near the Kfar Blum area (close to Kiryat Shemona), but the width of the river is only about 10 meters (30 feet) and the white water reaches Levels I&II possibly. Most of the river is very placid as you can see with a few places where the water rushes over some boulders in the river. It can be a very pleasant place to stop for a picnic when you find some shade trees like the huge Eucalyptus that the British brought in during their reign here.

The JORDAN (Yarden) river is a very long, narrow winding river that starts way up north, eventually pouring its waters into the Kinneret and then continuing on until it goes into the Dead Sea. It forms the eastern Biblical border of Eretz Israel.
The word Yarden is made out of two words ; Yored Dan - it comes down from the Dan. That's because it begins in Dan's territory. It gets most of its waters from four major sources; from the melting snows of the Chermon mountain which form Nachal Chermon (the Banyas), from Nachal Snir which starts way up in Lebanon and from Nachal Iyun which also starts in Lebanon and goes past Metulah, and from the Chatzbani which comes down from Shmurat Tel Dan.
The Yarden widens during the spring and many a time can change its snake-like course as it winds down south into the Yam Ha'Melech.
It is highly recomended to watch Yarden near kibuts Kfar Blum after a storm in the winter!!!

Learning to Dance in the North
by purplekedi
Hello everyone,
I'm looking to take up some performing arts courses while in Israel and I've heard that there's a place offering this knid of courses in Kafr Blum. My search on google wasn't very succesful, so could anyone please help me? Where can I possibly take some dance courses in the North? I'm staying in Kibbutz Dafna now and I'll be tramping so hopefully there's something close by.
I don't know if it's a long shot, I hope not.
Thanks!
Su

Shalom,
First you can check for their phone number and call them directly to ask.
Another option is to try this: uzit@galil-elion.org.il 04-6997706 04-6997704 0546948511, and talk to Uzi he is the manager of Klor center for dance & music There.
There's a VT member who lives in the north and might have any idea about it, you can write her, her username is haiamisa.
Best,
S.

Hey, thanks so much! Is Klor center for music and dance the one in Kafr Blum or is it a different one? I will definitely call him up. Somehow, it was hard to find anything about this on google in English.
Thanks again!

There are several places on the Jordan river for rafting, thought I don't think they are for heavy rafters...
check out the following websites:

In addition to the Kfar Blum rafting mentioned above (they mostly do rafting in the Snir river: a tributary of the Jordan) there are 2 more "serious" operators:
1. Jordan river rafting (no web site in English, but their mail is rafting@bezeqint.net)
2. http://rimoney-hagalil.com/site/detail/departAlbum/albumPic.asp?depart_id=20808&category_id=10148 (generaly a reliable operator for all activities).

Shalom, Shalom:
We rafting in Slovenia, near Moab, Utah and in the Grand Canyon for 7 days.
If you have done any serious white water rafting you will be possibly disappointed with the scope of rafting in Israel. The two rivers mentioned, Snir and Jordan are very tiny rivers and the rapids are mild, possibly level 1-2 at the worst during floods.
If you are just looking for enjoying a few hours on the water, then have fun.

I agree with Martin. The Jordan River is just a tame creek in the summer (great for families) compared to the likes of white water rafting in, say, the Triglav mountain area of Slovenia (Julian Alps).

My friend and I are planning to find the best rafting site in Israel next week, and we'll let you know how it was. We're looking up north at the top part of the Jordan River. Shabbat Shalom!
