Tabasco

I stayed at Tabasco a couple of times, first time we found it too noisy & not a great place to be, which is why we moved to the Faisel Hostel . The second time was in a group and we pretty much has the dorm to ourselves, so it was fine. Its a very lively place, it could have totally changed since I was there, but it wouldnt be my first choice of budget accommodation.

View from our room

This was our second choice of accommodation (see Tabasco Tip below). Pleasant enough, we had a twin room, it also has dorms. Members of the Fiji Rugby team were staying there the same time we were, which made it fun! (~_~). Our room had a balcony overlooking the old city walls & Damascus Gate. It was cheap & cheerful & the owner Ali was very amusing, although I dont think he particularly meant to be.

Silly Me!

A group of 6 of us stayed at a hostel in new Jerusalem over the christmas period. Our room for 6 became a room for 10 then some other Kibbutz volunteers decided to follow us down & slept on the floor. Apologies for not rembering the name of where we stayed when I do I will include it here, it was a very nice hostel though, clean & reasonable priced. Also good of them to let the rest of the other join us when they had trouble finding somewhere to stay over the Christmas period.

Christ Church Compound

Our first two nights were at the guest house of Christ Church. The rooms are sparse but inexpensive and the people were so kind to us. The Guest House is a popular place to stay within the walls of Jerusalem's Old City. It is It is staffed by Jewish and Arab believers as well as international volunteers. All rooms have private facilities. There is a telephone in each bedroom. Room rates include an Israeli breakfast buffet. Mid season cost for bed and breakfast in a twin room is US$ 92 and for a single room is US$ 51. Room rates include Israeli Breakfast buffet. Its in a gated compound and the gates are locked each evening.

This would be considered a four-star accomodation with an eight-story atrium in the center which can be viewed from the balconies and stairways. At night we could see illuminated Old Jerusalem from our window.

They have a lovely pool and the best pillows I ever slept on, I've been tempted to write them and ask where they get those PILLOWS! The rooms are spacious and the windows to the outside can be opened, which is unusual for a hotel in the US.

Tabasco Map

Here is a map of how to get to Tabasco, the old city can be disorientating at first but you soon get used to it after a few times there are many landmarks along the way to keep you o the right track. I always entered by the Damascus Gate as I knew my bearings from there.

larome hotel / king david hotel,/ymca /hilton / sheraton / hyatt regency and holiday inn are the preferable ones according to me

other than the king david and the ymca, all are modern hotels, still built in the jerusalem stone like all the other buildings in the city, but the foremr are more historical and autantic.
