Petra Hostel is situated in an old house with big rooms just inside Jaffa Gate. As the house is old it is run down, but sheets and bathroom are clean. Unfortunately eating and smoking guests are not always keeping tables, sofas and kitchen clean. I stayed in a dorm for 35 shekels. In the room there were four bunk beds (8 people) and a bathroom to share. And the room had a balcony to the square, which was nice. In the reception area there is a TV where you can watch the news or see a movie. There is also a small kitchen and one computer. To use the computer one hour is 10 shekels (15 minutes is 3 shekels). From the roof you can see the Dome of the Rock. | | | | Agron: Youth Hostel | Satisfaction: | | | | |
We stayed two nights in Agron Youth Hostel in the end of June 2007. The location is just perfect! It is close to the Independence Park and this means that you can just cross the park and you are in the new center of Jerusalem. Also the Old City is just 10 minutes walk from the hostel. Our room was big as it happened to be 'the security room' of the floor. We even had a huge fridge in the room! (See the picture!) As a member of the Fridge Society I was more than delighted about this. Our travelling companions, relatives from Finland, had a smaller room with an ordinary hotel type mini fridge. The rooms are also equipped with TV and A/C (of course, this is Israel!) and our room had also an electric kettle for making tea. The service at the reception was professional and excellent. The reception is closed between 11.00PM till 7.00AM - so try not have problems during that time, but if you still get locked out from your room (the keys are card keys) or something like that, you can ask help from the security guard at the gate. (This happened to somebody, but luckily not us!) The breakfast (included in stay) was ok, but the service at the dining room was a bit slow and strange, but we left with full stomachs anyway. There is a computer with free internet downstairs, I think it was the floor -3. Try the early morning hours and there is nobody at the computer.
