 | | | | American Colony Hotel (1 Louis Vincent Street.): A Meeting Place with History Compare Rates NEW! | Satisfaction: | | | | |
I didn't actually stay at the Colony, since I lived in the city, but the place is an historic spot in Jerusalem, and has been a gathering place to journalists, dignitaries, and scholars for decades now. It has remained in the same family which orginially built the place, and is currently run be one of the sweetest, most self-reliant old women I have ever met - I think she's in her 90s now, and still does the flower arrangements herself. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is excellent, the courtyard is beautiful and peaceful, and the bookshop is among the best in town for current Middle Eastern topics in English. Even if you decide to stay elsewhere, I highly recommend at least taking in a meal at the American Colony. | | | | Casa Nova, Custodia di Terra Santa: Stay In A 140 Year Old Monastery | Satisfaction: | | | | |
This old monastery, now inn, is very clean, comfortable, and friendly. It is conveniently located near New Gate not far from from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Via Delorosa. As a single woman, I felt perfectly safe there at that time (early 1990s). Current price for a single is 185 ILS according to one internet cite (see below). You can't beat this price. Breakfast is available. I can't remember if it was included in the price. The one drawback might be that there is an 11 p.m. curfew. For me, this was not a problem. | | | | Crowne Plaza Jerusalem: Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Compare Rates NEW! | Satisfaction: | | | | |
We stayed for a weekend (two nights) in Crowne Plaza Holiday Inn in February 2008. The hotel is one of the tallest buildings in the city and that makes it easy to find. We had a room in the 20th floor (the hotel has 21 floors) and this was highest I have ever slept. We had wonderful views from the room (see the pictures) to the south - the best views would have of course been to the east and the Old City but we weren't that lucky. The bed was big and very comfortable, the room had a fridge and a kettle with a supply of tea and coffee, TV and A/C. The breakfast was very good according to the Israeli standard. The buffet was too big even with huge choice of breads and pastries, salads, cheese, milk products, cereals, fresh orange and grapefruit juice, fruit... etc etc , just everything except sausages etc as it is kosher and milk and meat are not mixed. First night we had dinner at the Indian Restaurant Kohinoor beside the lobby and the second night which was Friday, we had the shabbat meal at the Hotel dining room. The meal was a huge buffet of too much food, which is typical at Israel hotel dinners. I very much enjoyed the heated swimming pool (included in price) downstairs. There were bathrobes in the room. I could just wear a bathrobe and go down with the elevator to the floor -2 to the swimming pool.
The location. The view. The swimming pool that opens at 6.30AM - my normal swimming time, so I could keep my swimming routine while there. Don't ask me how but I managed to drop my cellular phone, Nokia 6101 to the bath full of water. Attempts to save it with a hairdryer of the hotel bathroom didn't help. I needed to buy a new one the following day. I got Nokia 6131. No electricity one night. I had gone to the bathroom at around midnight and there was no electricity. I was too tired to think about it more and just walked around in dark and fell asleep again. At 4.00AM mr.haiamisa woke up to strange noises from behind the bathroom wall, like a waterpump that was trying to work but didn't manage and the noise just went on and on. Still no electricity. Mr.haiamisa phoned the reception after 4.00AM and told them we must have ghosts in between the walls and he asked someone to come immediately to rescue us. They came and fixed the electricity, listened to mr.haiamisa's crazy stories and the ghosts went quiet as well. Hmm. what might they have thought about the crazy folks at the room #2026? The hotel was under construction and it was impossible to go to the dining room that was in the floor -1 by the elevator, only by stairs. When we went down there with RhineRoll we were taken down by a staff elevator and via a long route that went via meeting rooms and the hotel kitchen... | | | | Crowne Plaza Jerusalem: Good central location. Compare Rates NEW! | Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Crowne Plaza is extremely convenient if you had to work on the West side of Jerusalem, but still want to be close to the action. It's a full service hotel - with restaurants, shops, running water, concierge, etc. It is located just north of the government complex in Jerusalem, and just south of the new Central Bus station. Depending on which side of the building you get, you may have a view of the Supreme Court building and Knesset, or even looking towards the Old City, or a nice view of the Bus Station Clock (like I had). Everything is within walking distance, in terms of sites to see - the Israel Museum where the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept - even the Old City - a short 30 min walk to the Jaffa Gate.
It's a tall building, so the view, high up, is fantastic! Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Givat Ram, , Jerusalem 91130Directions: Government District.Map: Crowne Plaza Jerusalem
