Little known treasure

I would highly recommend this hotel to real travellers who care about location, local service and a real experience more than free toiletries and a posh lobby!

The English-speaking staff could not have been more helpful - lending us towels for a trip to the Dead Sea, lending us a laptop to check-in for our flight home, changing bookings for us, finding us a new room when ours proved a little noisy, giving us advice on bus routes...anything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The stairs to the first floor reception were the last straw at the end of a long day of sightseeing but that's a little gripe.

The hotel is constantly being upgraded. The beds are new with good mattresses and comfortable bedding, the towels are due for replacement. The showers are powerful and the rooms are all ensuite but the soap and shampoo are basic. There is an interesting range of artwork adorning the walls. There is air-conditioning, television, a fridge but no tea and coffee making facilities. All the rooms are different, both in size and layout so do ask to see another if you don't fancy the first one. Some have small balconies and all have shutters.

Breakfast is next door and is Israeli-style: salad, cheeses, tuna, olives, bread and preserves, freshly-made omelette, fresh lemonade, cereal, tea and coffee, nothing flash but all you need for starting the day.

Unique Quality: The Jerusalem Inn is ideally located for a stay to explore the city and beyond. It is just off the Jaffa Road, a very easy five minute walk to a great range of shops and restaurants, also to the local buses for travelling further afield.

It is a gentle ten minute (maximum) walk to Jaffa Gate and the Old City of Jerusalem.

I would say it's one of the best located hotels in the city and I would certainly stay at the Jerusalem Inn again, it is good value for money in a very expensive city and provides all you need plus great service.

I am in internet hotel hell! Help! I need a budget hotel/lodging (private room with bathroom - no dorms or shared bath) in Jerusalem in a good location - walking to everything I need to see - for 5 nights. Under $100 US would be great! Every time I find a place, i find reviews that don't sound great. Any ideas out there??? Thanks!

I stayed in two different hotels in the old city which sounds like what you are looking for.

When are you going to be in Jerusalem? The season will greatly effect what type of hotel you can afford!

Re: Jerusalem

Thanks for your response. i checked out your page and your comments but I don't think I want to stay in the Old City. I will keep looking but thank you again!

Re: Jerusalem

I will be there in three weeks! August 3-10th!

Under $100 a night in the new city is next to impossible. AND August is usually busier for hotels than July. When you go to goisrael.com ( the official tourism site) and follow it through for hotel rates you find the Palatin ( good plain hotel in very good location) is $102 a night, the Jerusalem Inn, good location-I know nothing about the hotel is listed at $85-$100 per night ( I am assuming you want a single) Continue by yourself on the list. Start after the Jerusalem Inn ( [page 3) You write that the hotels you find don' thave great reviews. You are looking to spend very little. You will not get the best hotel, but you shouldn't be in a hovel. How about sharing which hotels you are thinking about or have rejected!

I finally decided on La Perla Hotel (6 Histradut street) for $540 US for 6 nights. It seems to have fairly good reviews (though 'bad mattresses' was one). I can still cancel without penalty if anyone has heard horrible things about it!
Thanks to everyone for your input. This is a great website!!
