In The New Jerusalem

The Renaissance Jerusalem Hotel is located near the entrance to the city on the main artery leading to every section of Jerusalem.
The Hotel is near the Israel Museum, Bibleland Museum, Science Museum, Central Bus Station, Israel Parliament, International Convention Center and other places of interest. Very near to everywhere...
Its a 5 star hotel with helpful staff ( except in Shabbats) and clean comfortably rooms.
The restaurants are efficient.Except for the wine list which is very short ...the rest is acceptable

A DANGEROUS HOTEL

I was an overnight guest at the Renaissance Jerusalem Hotel on the night of December 29-30, 2006. Early in the morning of Saturday Dec 30, 2006 there was a fire in the hotel sauna that generated a great amount of smoke. The smoke was clearly apparent in the rooms of all the floors in our wing. THERE WERE NO SMOKE ALARMS. THERE WAS NO FIRE ALARM. THERE WAS NO ORDERLY EVACUATION. THERE WAS A TOTAL LACK OF CONTROL.

This translates into a complete and total lack of concern for the guests. While making our way down the stairs on our own, we encountered a blocked stairway (northern stairway near room number 200(?) blocked at floor number 1).

Perhaps the most disappointing was the attitude of the hotel management which made no apology, comment, or did anything to make this quite frightening experience any less so.

I can only shudder at what whould have happened in a "real" emergency.
