One of Israel's Finest Hotels
This is one of the finest hotels to date in Israel and considered the best hotel in Eilat. It is at the end of the promenade and features three buildings: Herods Forum, Herods Vitalis, and Herods Palace. The forum is a cheaper hotel and not situated directly on the beach but rather across the street. The palace is the main building which features many restaurants, a club/pub, and one of the greatest spas I have ever seen. The food at Herods is excellent as is the atmosphere. Definently the place to go for those that can afford it.
Unique Quality: The pool is gigantic and they have a seperate shallow end and a kids pool. In Herods palace you have an excellent view of the Red Sea and Jordan. The hotel was basically built around their world class spa which is not doubled anywhere in Eilat. The next best spa to this one is in the Dead Sea and that is a three hour drive.
Opinion of Price: most expensive

For Eilat the best place to be
Eilat, why people like to visit it? Taxidrivers do not know where to find or worser they even don't know what a internet cafe is. The beach is so small with everyday the same boring faces who has forgotten what's live is all about... Diving with the dolphins is an experience with dolphins who came from the red sea! Don't mention the bordercontrols going to or from Egypte....... a good security is one thing, but a group of young stupid sadistic customs which are choosen for their sence off paranoia is not what you can call a welcome for the already few tourist who still like to visit Israel.... Thats why we found this hotel the best way to stay in Eilat if you really want to be there.
Unique Quality: The whole construction is beautifull. SOme rooms had a bed with a vibrator build inside. Don't get me wrong, it means that you can relax even more while the bed is shaking your body. It gave that extra for the place that you want to stay longer.
there are lot's of hotels in eilat. you can find heare any tipe of hotels and the expensive one's are very good!! for example the 'herods' hotel and 'orchidea' are very amazing hotels. all the hotels have a pool and amazing views of eilat and all the bay.....

MASADA: This is one of the Mosaic floors in Herods Palace on Masada. It is an intricate work of art to see the blue, white, black and red stones laid in geometric patterns. The central red heart shaped sections form a circle which is enclosed in a square.

The only "official" camping site I know, is in the "Eilat Field Scholl", a few KM's south of Eilat, near the Coral beach (a nicer beach than those in Eilat). A beach is across the road, and the underwater observatory (and also Dolphin reef) are just about.

Hi and Shalom:
I also do not know of any "official" camp grounds in Eilat, just the one already mentioned south of Eilat..
But for years we camped on the north shore of Eilat along the beach and toward the Jordanian border..between where the hotels end and before the border...this was not a fixed up area, no showers, no water, no toilets, we had to "rough it", but the price was right at the time, FREE ^O^...I will try to check and see if it is still possible to do this.

The possibility mentioned by martin was still possible a few month ago, and that wonderful beach (between Herods hotel and the Jordanian border) was quite full with (mostly long term) campers. I wont be surprised if local authorities would forbid you from doing that already, since they did the same in other fields just recently (like giving parking tickets to cars parking in places remote from civilazation).

Q:Walking distance? "Does anyone know how far it is from the border crossing at Taba to the Underwater observatory in Eilat?...and are there taxis..."
A: "It's about 2km from the Eilat side of the Taba crossing to the Observatory - if you look on Google maps both are marked. There's a bit of "no man's land" between the Taba..."
