transport from jerusalem to eilat

hi. what are the transport means to reach eilat from jerusalem? to fly, do i have to go to tel aviv? any land transport means (time and cost)?
and is august a busy season with many tourists in both jerusalem and eilat?

If you want to fly to Eilat you either have to go to Ben Gurion airport ( which is not really IN Tel Aviv0 or to the Tel Aviv airport.
Alternatively you can take an egged bus. For details look at the Egged site--www.egged.co.il/eng/ This bus is the only one which requires an advance reservation. The fare is 73NIS ( approx. 3.8 NIS to the dollar) and it takes 4 hours and 50 minutes!

Forgot the 2nd half of your question. Yes, August is a busy time--there are tourists in Jerusalem and Eilat. This is also the time you have Israelis traveling--so there is loads of internal tourism.

Some depart from Sde Dov, which is a drag to get to. Others from Ben Gurion which is on the road between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and a lot easier to travel to. Use Nesher Sherut (shuttle/group taxi) to and from B-G airport.

I think your best choise is a bus, takes 4/5 hours, costs 73 nis

Hi and Shalom:
From Jerusalem to the Ben-Gurion airport is about a 30-40 minute drive, time for check-in, then the flight to Eilat and check-out there, all total about 3 hours or more.
Bus direct from Jerusalem to Eilat about 4 hours but you get to see the Dead Sea area along route 90, the Arava Desert and you end up in the center of Eilat.
Also the price for a bus is better and you don't have to arrive ahead of time at the station like for a plane flight.
You could ask you hotel in Jeruslaem to check times and bus numbers for you and also arrange a taxi to the bus station.

Israel from Jordan to Egyptian borders

Israeli territory spreads in Eilat from Jordan to Egypt for only 10 km. The city is adjacent to the Egyptian village of Taba to the south, the Jordanian port city of Aqaba to the east, and within sight of Saudi Arabia to the south-east, across the gulf.
So I’ve managed to cross its territory when I strolled along the gulf shore from the very northern point of Eilat (Jordan border) to the very southern point of Eilat (Egyptian border). It took me about three hours with stops and taking photos and videos. I think that was a good idea because it’s possible to cross Israel for such short time only in Eilat.
I'm presenting this idea to Israeli touristy firms and to everybody who would have a rest in this wonderful resort: stroll Israel from Jordan to Egypt on foot for three hours!

Suntan lotion

Obviously to all of European and Nordics origins. Suntan lotion is a must. Body cream for the night will be good as well. But those items you can buy in every local supermarket. Underwater camera will be very useful here. I did slept at the beach in the 80?s but it is not recommended anymore. Problems can come from other people or the authorities. Shades

A nice way to enjoy the desert is by riding a camel , a very unique way to explroe the area.

Q: Walking distance? "Does anyone know how far it is from the border crossing at Taba to the Underwater observatory in Eilat?...and are there taxis..."
A: "It's about 2km from the Eilat side of the Taba crossing to the Observatory - if you look on Google maps both are marked. There's a bit of "no man's land" between the Taba..."
