eilat without the big hotels

by ccmk

Can I find small independent hotels in Eilat? or guesthouses? - I find big hotels so unreal and never feel as though I have been to a country if I can't stay amongst local people - is this possible along the red sea coast?

Depending upon when and you are gong and which large hotel you stay at, you will find plenty of Israelis in the hotel. Eilat is a vacation destination for Israelis too.

Eilat is not "Israel" in the authentic sense. It's like going to Disneyland. Staying in a small hotel is not going to make the difference. True, there are lots of locals in the big hotels, but they are vacationers as noted above, and you will not be seeing them as they really are. Traveling to other parts of the country is critical if you want to see "the real thing."

There is a youth-hostel, but i think it's very busy. There are aslo numerous basic guesthouse or even rooms to let in Eilat. search the web, or ask around the central-bus station. If you are really adventurous you could camp on the beach, using the public showers etc.

Enjoy!

Eilat is very much Disneyland-like. There are much more beautiful things to see in Israel. But if you want beautiful beaches and some privacy, I suggest you cross the border to Egypt and find a beach in Sinai.

Travel Tips for Eilat

Eilats Bridge

by edvin_br

The bridge is a small one and its situated in the center of Eilat, near Hilton in one side and near the Marina in the second side.
Its a very crowded place in most of the day and the night. Sometimes when bigger ships need to cross it rise up until the ship went trough and then it decreases again.

Websites to help You

by Sharon

In this websites you can find relevant information about Eilat or the south area.
Ideas where to visit, Hiking routs, rural accommodation, attractions and more.
If you're interested in desert hikes better make good homework and ask for guidness, dont go alone and without letting anyone know that you're in a hike in the dessert and in which area.

'When going to the beach #2

by User101

Some beaches have lots of pebbles and no sand at all. It can take all your fun away if you will not wear flip flops... In short wear shoes that will allow you to go in the water. Most shops along the beach sell them in fair prices just make sure you bring the shoes with you to the beach...

Wind surfing in Eilat, Israel

by Martin_S.

Wind surfing is one of the most popular sports in Eilat, there is a pretty constant wind coming from the south which blows parralell to the beach...here you can see our friend Giora trying out the waves and wind. Sorry about the poor quality the photo was taken when he was at a distance of several hundred meters from us.

Airport

by dankata

I know that's a queer advice, but I think there are not too many towns having an airport right in the middle, so Eilat one's is worth a look. It's about 4 min walk from your hotel to the airport, and all this takes place in the city center.

A: "It's about 2km from the Eilat side of the Taba crossing to the Observatory - if you look on Google maps both are marked. There's a bit of "no man's land" between the Taba..."
