Close to the Beach !

A nice, small hotel, at first sight rather middle-class, after having checked in better than its appearance.
Small reception & Lobby, average-friendly staff, nice rooms with some amenities and coffee-making facilities, small bathroom, view partly towards a big parking-lot, that can be noisy at night.

Unique Quality: Small reastaurant with rather good choice of food, excellent breakfast-buffet.
The hotel is located close to the beach-hotel area ( Sheraton) and also close to the Mediterranean. One of the main Tel Aviv shopping streets is nearby.

decline

by TripAdvisor Member huntingtonJerusalem

We have stayed at this hotel over the years and found it pleasant and extremely convenient. However on our last stay we found evidence of a decline in standards together witha price hike. The television in the room was broken. There was no plug in either the bath or the bathroom sink. These problems were corrected after a while but it is not what you expect in a well run hotel. The general feeling is that management is content to let this hotel decline into a neglected old age. Pity.

Best kept secret

by TripAdvisor Member anmejoshme

Looking for a great deal in Tel Aviv? We booked on-line and didn't know what to expect. The City Hotel is all it advertises and more! Only a block from the beach and only steps from main streets, it is on a quiet side street without the traffic noise you so often get in Tel Aviv. The hotel is small and intimate and the staff friendly. The rooms were larger than expected for Israel hotels and spotlessly clean. Airconditioning worked well and beach towels were available from the front desk. Great Israeli breakfast included. No big rowdy groups here either.
Highly recommend...check prices we got a great price (a third of the price we would have paid for the Sheraton down the street) by researching on-line offers. This is part of the Atlas hotel chain. We also stayed at the Center Hotel several weeks later and visited the Cinema Hotel. You just can't go wrong with these in my opinion. Substantially less in price than the big hotel chains, spotlessly clean, excellent locations. They will our first choice of hotels on our next trip to Israel. By the way, this was my eighth visit to Tel Aviv and have stayed in the big fancy hotels and youth hostels and others in between so am able to compare.

Avoid- Dirty

by TripAdvisor Member jlbko

This hotel was listed as 4 stars on hotels.com. It is not as nice as a US Red Roof. It was dirty, the carpets were dirty and stained, the walls and furniture were dirty and stained. Bathroom was extremely small and tub was stained. Hot water was limited. We had 2 rooms, both were as bad. I asked for another room and it was as bad. By contrast, we had stayed 4 nights at Moriah Classic in Jerusalem which was rated 3 1/2 stars on hotels.com. That hotel was a palace compared to City Hotel. We paid $50 more per night per room at City Hotel. The hotel is close to the beach which was a plus, but so are many other hotels. There were no beach towels although we had been given coupons. I got an argument from the management when I asked for bath towels instead so that we had something to use, although we did get the bath towels. The breakfast was fair , not very fresh. The dining room was unpleasant- hard chairs, bare floors- especially compared to our Jerusalem hotel which had a lovely dining room with upholstered chairs and patterned carpet.

Very nice hotel good location

by TripAdvisor Member osalia

I was so sceptic about the hotel ! but a big surprise to find out: great location very good breakfast i booked in a very good site inisrael.com all hotels there are directly to the hotel reservation system so i could also book an hotel in jerusalem
I booked only because of good price on the website, and i found mutch more in the hotel.

Good Location but not up to advertisement

by TripAdvisor Member lionbury

We checked out straight away and moved to a better hotel which cost us somewhat more. Ok so we knew that it was a tourist grade hotel but it should provide the basics air conditioning that works and other material as advertised.

We visited the hotel in Sep 2008 with some friends. A good breakfast was provided and rooms were small but clean. The location was excellent close to the main shopping and also the beach.

My main objection is that the advertisements show a very modern upgraded bedroom, which we looked forwarded to. When in reality most of the rooms have not been updated. I spoke to several guests and they did not have an updated room.

So in general the hotel was good but ask for an upgraded room.

Great location, enjoyable

by TripAdvisor Member Ofera

The hotel is located just 2 minutes walk from the beach. Clean rooms and showers. The hotel serves good food but also close to many good restaurants. At all times I found the staff friendly and helpfull.

modern, friendly hotel nearby the beach, clean rooms, good services

by TripAdvisor Member joffie

The City hotel is a very nice and reasonable prized hotel, with good beds and modern and clean design furniture. Our hotel room had a lovely balcony and you could oversee the beach and the sea. The hotel is situated in a feeling save area in Tel Aviv, nearby big 5* hotels and nice restaurants and shops. Only 150 meter from the long beach. We walked all the way to Jaffa. The staff was very friendly and they did what they promised, wake up call, take a way breakfast and organized directly a taxi. We enjoyed our too short stay here. We stayed in the City Hotel for 4 nights during business trip.
we got a nice renovated room, large, compartable and very clean.

the hotel location is great, one minute from the beautiful tel aviv beach.

the staff was extremely hospitable and helpful.
the rate is very modest, my friend stayed in other hotel near by and payed almost twice then me.
