Hi, I'm traveling to Israel for the first time in October. I'm a bit worried about my flight arriving late at night and having to travel alone to join a group in Tiberias. Originally, I wanted to save some money by using public transportation, but had to scrap that out in favor of private transfers from BEN GURION Airport to Tiberias. Is $74 per car per way overpriced or reasonable, given my circumstances? How long does it usually take to get out of the airport with Immigration and everything? I'm holding a Japanese passport. Any tips or advice would be much welcomed.
Once your flight has landed, barring any unusual circumstances you can count on being out of the airport in less than one hour. With a Japanese passport you will be given your tourist visa automatically at passport control.
Not sure what you mean by arriving late at night, nor do I know where you got your information of $74 for a private transfer to Tiberias.
Taxi fares a regulated by the government, official fares are published. The official, non-meter fare for a taxi from Ben Gurion Airport to Tiberias at night is 773 NIS - which is approximately $203. Is the fee you quoted for a pre-arranged pick-up for a number of persons? If so, then it is a fair price.
I would be wary of anyone offering you a special deal if they are not licensed to transport passengers. If that is the case, you should be aware of the fact that they will not have the proper car insurance and if something unpleasant happens you may not be insured.
Thank you, thank you!
My flight lands past 9PM on Saturday. My travel agent here gave the quote for one way private transfers of US$74. It's good to hear that it's a fair deal.
According to the Egged web site, there is a bus from the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station (CBS) to Tiberias at midnight. This is for tomorrow night which is a holiday weekend, so I don't know if this true for *every* Saturday night. If indeed there is a midnight bus when you want it, then you would take the train to the Tel Aviv "Haganah" station - 15 minute ride (the only practical one: 9:57pm), and walk about 200-300 meters to the CBS to take the midnight bus to Tiberias (NIS 47).
My personal opinion: For US $74, it pays to take the prearranged transport and not to worry about catching everything on time.
$74 per car is a reasonable price. From the the moment you take your luggage from the belt it will take 15 min. to get out of the airport.

Nice white sand beaches with all the different blues you can imagine, this is how I now remember Tel Aviv Beaches.
As usual busy during weekends, but really good during the week, at the mornings you will only find people doing exercise.
I hardly recommend to see a Sunset. Just great
Go to the top of the round tower, visit the observatory and enjoy the international cooking of the restaurant there: 2 C (to see) ...
Just great
The Center is composed of 3 buildings, one square (not to high), a triangular one, and a circular one. The circular has a height of more than 50 floors, and deserves a visit (observatory and restaurant)
Thanks to our friends in Tel Aviv, that showed us this great place: Hilla (Hilla_m) and Gil (Bregnam).
