SERVICETAXIS FOR TRAVEL TO SYRIA

by GUCCI08

I WILL BE IN AMMAN ON DEC 18TH AND WOULD LIKE TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT SERVICE TAXIS THAT WOULD TAKE US FROM AMMAN JORDAN TO DAMASCUS. THERE WILL BE 3 OF US. I WOULD LIKE A PHONE OR EMAIL NUMBER FOR THE PERSON OR COMPANY TO CONTACT. ALSO SOME DETAILS ABOUT APPROXIMATE COST. THANKS. ALMAS

Therer is no phone or email for the servis between Amman and Damascus. You can pick up a servis from one of the taxi offices around the Abdali bus station. They leave when they are full or you can opt to pay the fare for all seats (there are 5)to have the taxi to yourselves for a more comfortable ride. The fares are set by the government, prices for all transport have risen since I was in Jordan so I wouldn't like to say what they are at present. Locally, Damascus is known as Cham - tell the taxi you want to go to Asham and they'll understand you better.

Yes, it costs each passenger around 15-20 Jordanian Dinars.

Travel Tips for Amman

Dead Sea

by Pakistaniguy

Dead Sea is not so far from Amman and it's location is very important because it lies between Isreal and Jordan. Going to Dead Sea ! It ws simply one of the very interesting short trip which i have ever taken !

Take a daytrip to the dead sea.

by cachaseiro

The dead sea is only an hours drive from Amman and a very easy daytrip.
If you want to swin then you should head for the northern shores ofd the dead sea and go to the movenpick resort where you can acces the beach for free and youi have showers on the beach to clean the salt off your body after the swim and they don't mind that you use the bathrooms at the pool area for changing clothes.
This is your chance to visit the lowest point on earth and to swim even if you can't swim.

hand painted ostrich eggs

by call_me_rhia

it's a local arts and craft shop sponsored by Save the Children. All the proceeds go to the women who produce the items hand painted ostrich eggs - the designs vary - but for them the artists use the mosaic technique (little dots instead of brush strokes). Most designs are inspired by Jordanian mosaics over 100 JD, expensive but worth it

City Terminal

by THLIN

For all Royal Jordanian Airlines passengers, they can check-in in RJ's city terminal prior to the schedule. But it locates in 7th Circle, which is 9 to 10 km away from downtown ( Roman Theatre.) It's a bit inconvenient for those who don't have a car. But if you take a taxi from doentown and your destination is the airport, it still cost you less. There are UN-scheduled shuttle buses between city terminal and QAIA. It only cost you JD2 for the bus. For taxi, it is about JD12.
City terminal close at 10pm, and the final bus normally leave at 9:45pm.

A Walk on the Wild Side

by TheWanderingCamel about Wild Jordan

Much favoured by smart young Ammanites, Wild Jordan is the cafe in the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature's headquarters. The building is quite stunning, with spectacular views over Amman. Modern, very trendy - this is as far from "traditional" as it could possibly be.

Special events include Jazz evenings and family breakfasts with activities for the kids.
There's an RSCN shop in the building and internet access, though this is fairly expensive . The food's good, typical cafe fare with a Middle Eastern bent - hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, cappucinos, excellent fruit juices.
