amman is now a very big city;for 3 reasons
1)jordan has welcome hundreds of thousands of palestinian refugees, many of them live near amman,(ar-rusayfah,or az-zarqa)--------
2)because of the civil war in lebanon, amman became a business and bank center in the 1980's ---------
3)the gulf war has brought again many refugees from iraq a little quarrel in abdali station,I was trying to find a bus to saudi arabia, and a taxi-driver told me that the best was to take a collective taxi in raghdan station to tabuk;I said:no,I prefer to take a bus to ma'an,then to al-mudawara;and the taxi-driver felt offended:there is no bus from ma'an to al-mudawaura,I know my country!!!
in tourists-traps on VT,the most important problems come always from taxi-drivers

this is a map of ancient jerusalem, that you can see in saint-georges church in MADABA,about 30kms from amman. This map is very famous, there is a little reproduction in the cardo,in the jewish district in the old city of jerusalem.
It is one of the best sources to know how jerusalem was built at that time.Israelis who go to jordan usually travel to petra and madaba
From Amman to Petra then Aqaba
by onfoot
You have 2 options:
1- Use local transportation,
Amman - Petra: you can take the bus from Wehdat bus station (or sometimes called south station), it's 4 JDs
OR you can take the JETT bus to Petra leaves everyday at 6:30am arriving at Petra around 9:30 (8 Jds one way) leaves from Abdalli - Jett company.
Petra - Aqaba: you can take the local buses to Aqaba, last one leaves around 5pm ... but you need to check as times changes in summer (so just ask when you first set foot in Petra about the Aqaba buses times)
2- Rent a car: AVIS has offices in Amman & Aqaba (both at airports and inside the city), so you should have no problem leaving your car in Aqaba after your trip is over. Prices also changes depending on the season and how long you want it for but it will cost no less than 40 JDs/day

Amman to Syria and Lebanon
by Vabate
To travel to Lebanon and Syria from Amman, use the Service cars (shared taxis) on either side of the street at Abdali Bus Station.
Step into one of the offices and ask for pricing. Cars leave when they are full, unless you would like to buy additional seats for an earlier departure. These cars are faster than buses and just as cheap.
