 | Amman InterContinental Jordan Reviews | 1 - 6 of 6 | |
I'm a little hamstrung by my not being able to compare the Intercontinental to any other hotel in Amman, but related to other other 5-star hotels (the Sheraton in Kuwait City, for example), it comes up a bit short. The rooms are lovely, if small; the lobby and restaurants look as though they were designed to fit the luxury hotel image. The prices for everything are certainly 5-star calibre...high. The concierge arranged a trip to Petra for us but she went ouside the IC's own car fleet in the process so when word got to the fleet manager, he assumed one of his boys would be the driver. Hence, I got the wrong driver and the trip began with 1-1/2 hours of harranguing cell phone calls back-and-forth between the driver and the concierge who wanted us to wait another 1-1/2 hours while the hired driver caught up with us in the middle of nowhere to replace the guy we were with!
Restaurants and room service have been spotty for food quality. They claim the orange juice is "fresh" but what they mean is it's fresh out of a bottle. The scrambled eggs were a pile of jiggly, gelatinous goo that sat atop a crustless piece of toast; the croissants were overbaked and the coffee barely hot. Everyone seemed to be responding quizzically to my tipping as if it was barely adequate...(what? 20% is not enough??) but perhaps that is a regional predisposition. There is a very nice business office and lounge but use of it is charged to the room. It was free at the Sheraton-Kuwait. On a more positive note, there are buffets gratis both morning and evening and the evening includes complimentary wine, beer and spirits (selection is limited).
