Grand View Resort Petra

AVOID this hotel

Obviously the do not have guests who regularly travel, we have stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels around the world and have never been subject to such low standards most 2 * hotels are better than these hotels.
It was as their web site says "a once in a lifetime experience" we have never before experienced such an appalling standard of either the place or the service from a one star hotel and it will be our once only experience of "The Grand View Hotel Resort”. You certainly could not call the DUMP of The Grand View Resort either a resort or a hotel the only thing grand about it is the VIEW.

Have any of the staff, management, or owners ever stayed in a 4/5 star resort hotel, I think not, this hotel is not even a third world holiday camp status

What was wrong? it has seen no maintainance since it was built, the cleaning was less than should be expected, the rooms were dingy the bathroom both poorly designed and exceedingly small.
What is the point of having a swimming pool on a terrace where the pool has not been cleaned and as the temperature is 40+ degrees there are no shades.


The mini bar was an empty fridge and requests to fill this went unheeded we could not even get a bottle of water and had to bring our own from out side. Fortunately as the man on reception did not know if there would be dinner our driver took us into Petra to eat.

With regard to the hotels we will have to call that part of the rich tapestry of life "the small threadbare bit in the corner" and put it down to experience.

Breakfast

Getting a cup of coffee was a major big deal and took an age. Now to breakfast, we were told that breakfast was from 6 till 10.30. We went down for breakfast at nine o'clock to find a buffet devoid of food, fruit juice which was powdered orange and when I said my wife was allergic to orange the "child" who was the only person in sight pretended he did not understand, they must surely have had some decent fruit juice in the bar.

The fruit was non existent, the cheese had obviously been on the table uncovered for 3+ hours and as the AC either did not work or was switched off, was curled up and dried out, the hot food was again all cold as the chaffing dishes did not have heaters and anyway who would want to eat dried up cold sausage, scrambled eggs or tomatoes.

At least after a lot of complaining he at last remembered he did speak English and eventually fetched the "manager" another person who had no idea of 5* service, who then had to go into the kitchen and shout at the staff to make us an omelette and get some fruit, not fresh!!! straight from a tin, a bit of a surprise given that there are fresh fruit vendors on every street corner, we never did get our fruit juice!!!
