Petra Pioneers: your perfect hosts
by dutchboycalledjan
If just come back from a wondeful trip to Petra with Ahmad from Petra Pioneers http://www.petrapioneers.com . I needed transportation to and from Petra (to Eilat border), hotel, transportation to and from the hotel and a guide.... and this also for my mother who is diabled and travels with a wheel chair. Petra Pioneers surpassed our expectations. With kind and firm words, they arranged for my mother to be taken to and from the restaurant in Petra by horsedrawn buggy. Also the knowledge about the place was good as was the service. We warmly recommend them as your travel support in Jordan. Of course, the end of the siq, the first look on the Treasury. Try to arrive not too early or too late, when the light highlights the features. We`arrive around 11.00 am (april 11 th) and that was perfect.
Why not be a STUDENT?!
by THLIN
Bring your international studnt card with you. When we bought the ticket, I was really happy among my gang. They have to pay full fare but I have an international student card, so my fare cut into half. It's really expensive to pay a visit there. Ticket for one day is JD21; for two is JD26; for three is JD30+.(can't remember)
So I paid JD13 for being a student.
The Gorge that Leads Towards Petra
by Paul2001
One of my favourite aspects of Petra was the interesting walk though the gorge that leads to the various tombs and graneries. The rock formations are incredible and are worth pondering over as you hike through the gorge. The gorge is about one kilometer long and it takes about fifteen minutes to walk through. For people who might have problems making this hike there are pleasant horse drawn carridges that make the trip through the gorge. I do not know right now how much this costs.
People might remember that a scene in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was shot in the gorge. It is near the climax of the film.
The colours of Petra
by TheWanderingCamel
The intense colours and extraordinary striations you see everywhere in Petra really give a whole new meaning to the term 'living rock". Everywhere you look you see the rock forming amazing patterns - here looking like shimmering pleated silk, there looking for all the world like a giant layer cake with frosting dripping over the top. Swirls of colour dip and dive, turn right angles and twist back on themselves. Reds, greys, blues and golds dazzle the eye. Inside the tombs they glow with an inner light, outside under the fierce sun thay become paler, more muted but take on deeper and stronger tones in the shadows and as the sun moves through the day they shift and change in a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern that is quite breathtaking.

THE TREASURY
by Helga67
Nobody knows why the first facade cut into stone that greets people as they emerge from the Siq is called the Treasury. This building was always a burial site and never had anything to do with money matters. The well-preserved facade is decorated with a rich variety of symbols related to death. Nabatean gods in charge of guiding the souls of the dead, Medusa heads, eagles and winged victories.
