Promising New Beach Hotel, Good Value For Money

This place is very new, a few things were still missing, like pictures from the walls, water from the swimming pool etc. The staff is very friendly and we got a special discount since we were amongst the very first guests. 25 JD for 2 people in one room, including breakfast, it's a good value for money.

The food was just excellent, we had fresh fish - we saw them alive before they got grilled! - and calamari for dinner, followed by the refreshing lemon juice while we were watching the sunset from the terrace.
No alcohol available.

Unique Quality: Our room had a great view over the Red Sea, and the coral reefs. The beach is just 2 minutes walk away across the road.

Is a one day trip to Aqaba possible

by donnybd

Hi, We will be in Eliat and want to drive a rent a car from Eilat to Aqaba.
Is there a one day visa available at the boarder crossing.
Is this the best way to get there for a day trip.
Thank You Don & Emily

1. Yes, there is a free visa. See below.

2. You can't drive a rental car across the border. Insurance won't allow it.

3. Best way? IMHO just take a taxi in Eilat, walk across, and get another taxi there, if you need one.

For all the info you can ever want on Jordan, I suggest looking at Ruth's site:
http://www.jordanjubilee.com/

According to her site:
>Anybody arriving in Aqaba, whether at the port, at the airport or from the Arava crossing from Israel can get a free visa for Jordan. There is no obligation associated with this visa, providing they leave the country within one month and do not need to register their visa for "renewal". Passports are not checked at the ASEZ control point leaving the Economic Zone.>

Have fun!

Yes Acaba and Eilat are next door to each other and can be accessed easily. I do suggest you contact someone like Desert Eco Tours (Joza Wilf) a friend of mine who does alot of Petra and aquaba day tours. He knows the area very well and speaks the language... if you know what I mean. I'd skip the rental car, and with the guide, have them drive you. The cost is about the same.
If you do contact Desert Eco Tours or Joza - tell them David Neisen from San Antonio sent you. Have a great time.

Travel Tips for Aqaba

Immigration...

by THLIN

If you want to pass the immigration check quickly, first you need to give your passport to the immigration service in your boat. And then when you arrive the port, you should find some "Foreign" tourists, and make it a group. The official will issue you visa quicker and it's free of charge. The duration is one month which is even longer than that I applied in Queen Alia International Airport. The immigration official is very nice and friendly. Please wait in line just like sign says" Foreigner" "Arabic" "Jordanian"

Diving : the Japanese Gardens

Also in Wreck Bay but to the southern end. Entry is through a narrow gully in the fringing reef and then descend to an eel grass bed, where you will find Snowflake Morays. The main reef is encountered at 5m then follow it down through shoals of Orange Basselets and Sergeant Majors. Keep at a 20m depth and swim along edge of reef over bushes of black coral. If sharks are to be seen (White Tip Reef sharks) this is where you will see them in the deep blue of the Gulf to your right. At 23m at the head of a gully there is a large Gorgonia Fan coral. From here start working your way into the shallows, keeping an eye out for resident turtles. At 15 there is a pinnacle with a large Yellow Mouth moray and large Cornet Fish hunting in the shoals. Continue up to 2 pinnacles at 6m filed with Lion Fish and shoaling Basselets and the occasional Barracuda.

Diving the "Cedar Pride"

by TheWanderingCamel

THE WRECK OF THE CEDAR PRIDE

A Lebanese freighter was scuttled in 1983 and now hosts a wide variety of hard and soft corals. She is intact and lies across two reefs on her port side. Divers can swim under her at 27m. She can take several dives to fully appreciate and is an excellent night dive. It is also the site for beautiful sea horses.

Entry through a narrow path through the reef to drop into 5m of water where a small pinnacle sits with a myriad of life, an excellent safety stop on the return. Follow Rainbow Reef down to the wreck, explore from bow to stern, working your way to the top of the superstructure. The mast is covered in large red soft coral, large snappers and cruising Yellow Bar Bream. Leave the wreck with air enough to explore Rainbow Reef as you make your way back to the entry point.

Evening walk

by TheWanderingCamel

Beautiful, balmy evenings are what you would expect in Aqaba, just right for a stroll before supper. Heading south along the waterfront will take you past the small fort, set among palm trees, and on to the little fishing harbour. Moored nearby, the boat that houses the Mina House Restaurant is a pleasant place to while away a couple of hours over dinner and a bottle of wine. Sitting out on deck at your table, with the water lapping and the lights of Eilat in the distance, goes someway to alleviating the slightly inflated prices - and you can be sure the fish is fresh!
