Movenpick Petra
by barryg23
The Movenpick Petra is one of the most expensive hotels in Jordan and its location, right by the gates of Petra, is perfect for anyone visiting Petra.
We rarely stay in hotels like the Movenpick, but when planning our trip we noticed they had a special offer of 3 nights for the price of 2 if your birthday coincided with your stay - which mine did - so we decided to book it.
We did feel a little bit out of place with our backpacks at first but we soon got used to living in luxury! The Movenpick is a beautiful hotel, decorated in a traditional Middle-Eastern style, with excellent restaurants, bars and nice touches like a roof top garden and a peaceful library.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding and we ate so much here every day that we had no choice but to go out and walk 20 or so kilometres in the sun. Our room was quite large, with all the facilities you'd expect from a 5 start hotel, with my own favourite being the Nespresso machine they provided.
Also, as a birthday gift when we checked in, we were upgraded from a standard room to a suite. So despite the cost (expensive even with 1 night free) we were very impressed by the Movenpick and enjoyed our stay here immensely.
Buffet at the Movenpick Petra
by mariebcollins about Movenpick
16 JD for the full buffet or 6 JD for soup and salad. 4JD for a giant Amstel beer.
The soup and salad buffet is by far the better deal as the mains and desserts were only average. Great breads and salads.

The restaurant in the hotel is really great, normally you pay for the hotel including the breakfast, but there are also options to pay for the dinner and lunch included!

Anyone used tour company PETRA MOON?
by helslinc
Hi
My wife and I will be spending 2 weeks in Jordan in May. We like independant travel and looking for a few day tours from Amman (kings highway, desert castles), Petra (Wadi Rum) and the Dead Sea (Jerash) and travel between these destinations. We have found the tour company 'Petra Moon' that has a good website. Has anyone used Petra Moon before? What were they like, what were their private cars like?
Has anyone stayed at the Petra Movenpick, what did you think of it?
Thanks heaps to anyone gives us advice.

Hi Arnaud,
Your question would deserve another post but what exactly do you want to know about the night tour? I did it last october (see my related tip) and it's definitely worth it!
In short, it's organised every tuesday and thursday (if enough people), it starts around 8:30pm from the visitor center and costs 12JD. We can't go further than the Kahzneh (the Treasury).

This tour normally takes place on Mondays and Thursdays, but for the time being it has been cancelled by the Regional Council. Everybody hopes that permission will be given for it to resume before long.

Petra Moon is an excellent and reputable company. It is small, but it takes very good care of its clients and gives individual service. You would be in good hands.
